So I guess this is the old kit right? Does anyone have any detailed thoughts about the old one vs the new one?

roelst1The new one came with, i think it was 6, pry tools, or guitar picks and a handy metalish dull looking knife thing. It was missing several of the metal ?splungers from the 1st kit. I don't see any changes in the 64bit kit part of it. This deal comes with the magnetic project board that doesn't normally come with the older kit or the new kit. However the space backing the bit kit, is magnetic in the new kit, handy for holding screws, but you can't draw on it to remind you where they went like this mat does. I use both and am thinking about getting another in this deal. The hazard of having multiple work sites. Hope I answered your questions. You can find more at the ifixit.com website. Or read my post a few posts above this reply. Oh one other thing, the new kit has a nylon tipped reverse tweezers, that's pretty kewl.. This kit with the magnetic pad is $20 cheaper than buying from them and when we get 300 people I think that goes up to $30 off, a smokin' deal as my wife says. Oh and one thing I didn't notice till you made me start really comparing, my old kit has a 54bit set and the new one is 64bits. Now I have to figure out which are the new 10 bits that I have. Only issue I've had with the bits is they're soft, which someone told me was in keeping with the hardness required by some computer makers. better to strip the driver than the screw. I don't know, but i bent the heck out of a 0 flat point and a 1 flat point, i should contact them to see if they'd replace them. My little Husky screwdriver set worked just fine on the screws that bent the heck out of these two bits and my Whia screw driver works fine on them too. The lock tight on the screws in the apple laptops is pretty tight but not so tight I thought it would bend the tips of the bits, either way, i'd buy it again, it's worked great for many other things.

jwd1photoThank you very much, that clears some things up. I don't care about the magnetic board, but I have been hesitating to buy this kit for quite I while now. $70,- is a steal for this when compared to the $121,- it will cost me at the ifixit website (including shipping to the Netherlands).

jwd1photoWhere do you see the new kit is 64 bits? I only see 54 bit references (on the MD info). There is a 2016 version mentioned by tmoore that has 64 bits, though. These are great - been using them for the last 5 years or so.

mrheadWe’re tool geeks at iFixit—so it warms my heart to see such serious discussion over the merits of our various toolkits.
This drop is for our Classic Pro Tech Toolkit + Magnetic Project Mat. This Pro Tech Toolkit includes our 54 Bit Driver Kit, plastic opening tools, 3 different styles of EDS-safe tweezers, 3 different metal spudgers, nylon spudger, a knife, machinist ruler, anti-static wrist strap, and suction cup. And—the drop includes our Magnetic Project Mat (a seemingly simple dry-erase magnetic surface for organization and note taking—you’ll wonder how you ever went without one of these!)
Yes, we have a new style available—the All-new Pro Tech Toolkit. This kit includes our 64 Bit Driver Kit. Which is better? Well, it really depends on what you want. This drop gives you a much wider variety of tools and capability than going with the All-new Pro Tech Toolkit. Do your research, come to your decision, and buy awesome iFixit tools. :) And, don’t forget, all our tools are backed by our Lifetime Warranty.
Lob any other questions my way—I’ll try to check back regularly.

Jeff_SnyderWould it be possible to add the 64-bit driver kit as a separate add-on to this drop. I'm already committed at $54.95 :)
