Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Plate issue aside, the keyboard is truly exquisite! Not only the it looks and feels like a jewel, but the heft of it is something to behold! It could easily double as a defense weapon in case you have an unwanted intruder! Handle with care and do not drop it on your feet! The stabilized keys are the most solid and smooth I've ever experienced, unlike the flimsy and rattle prone ones I've had with most of my previous keyboards. White plate notwithstanding, the lighting is beautiful, consistent and there are tons of options for everyone. I prefer a single, solid colour (usually gold). Makes the CM Masterkeys Pro S I used until I received this look and feel like an item bought at Toys 'r Us, it really does! If only the plate were white.....
