do NOT join this drop. I was part of the IKBC Mf-87 drop and there are so many defects with my keyboard. There is some serious lack of quality control with regards to the keyboards sent out. I've yet to hear any kind of RMA process or communication from MD or IKBC. If you're willing to drop 150 dollars for no reason, then go for it. All I'm saying is wait to see how this company responds to customer service before spending your money.

kleenexghostDid you have issues beyond the shorting issue causing the keys to not work properly that users have a fix for? I have been going back and forth on this trying to decide if it was worth the risk. I can add a liner to protect the PCB from the aluminum but if there are other issues with quality that might be enough to move to a different option. Can you add pictures or video of your issues?

kleenexghostIf you are new to keyboards or this is your first or second mech, take kleenexghost's advice.
But if you are familiar with mech boards and custom DIY kits, this drop is quite the bargain for the features. The issues brought up so far do not appear critical (knock on wood) and can easily be addressed (most mech geeks take apart their new boards regardless if there were issues. I plan on putting liner inside the case regardless if there were shorts or not to improve the sound and reduce pings). I've seen this short happen with every brand of keyboard that has made contact with an aluminum case.
Aluminum cases alone start at $200, but with this drop we get a fullsize RGB backlit keyboard ($100-150) along with PBT doubleshots (usually $30-50 a set) in a 5lb aluminum enclosure.
The issues are unfortunate, however, and it seems like the first round of orders went to unwitting beta testers.
BTW I don't work for MD and have joined this drop. Looking forward to opening it up!

kleenexghostI completely agree with kleenexghost's comments. All MF-87 have non-insulation issue, and some have key input issue, and USB port issue. I am really disappointed.

JoshCraigI haven't opened up the keyboard to really assess the extent of what I would need to do. You are right though; it seems that the issue can be resolved with putting some kind of liner. But from a buyer perspective, I just dropped a considerable amount of money for something that was not marketed as DYI. If you're paying a premium price for something that you expect to work out of the box, then its outrageous to not only have these issues with regards to quality control but also to see other people commonly having these issues as well. I've yet to hear a response for MD or IKBC so I would really recommend to people to just be wary with their hard earned money.

kleenexghostI will give @iKBC the rest of the day to respond to these latest posts and see if they have an actual update and have dealt with this issue for this drop. There are probably plenty of people who would buy if it was fixed, me included.

NurbsThis would be my first mechanical keyboard, but I'm not opposed to getting into the DIY stuff a bit and like you said the features for the price are quite good. I can't find any info about lining the case though. Can you give me any info on what you would line it with or point me towards some place where I find some more info on it?

NurbsAwesome, thank you!
I had been thinking of just using a drawer liner but wasn't sure if I needed something that would contour more to the sides of the case as well as the bottom.
What do you think about using Plastidip on the inside of the case? Would that cause any potential problems that I'm not aware of or would it not protect against shorting the same as those liners would?

ObscureReferenceI've never used plastidip, but it should work. Believe someone else on this thread used it with success. Painting the case can lower its value if you were to sell it in the future, but since plastidip can be easily removed (I think?) it should be OK. The foam also acts as an accoustic dampener for metallic cases.

NurbsThanks for the help! I think I'm going to try both out separately and together to see how it changes the sound.
I can't wait for this to come in and I'm already looking and ordering other mechanical keyboards while I wait.

ObscureReferenceDon't know if this helps but this is meant for circuit boards and electrical insulation and its cheap. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N68B77V/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2I3H3M4T18KCB

NurbsYeah, I've been well aware of that. I've got this one ordered and then 3 more potentials on my short list, luckily for me all of those are cheaper than this one.
Also, thankfully I've done my research so I'll save my money on that side-lit keycap set that's on here now since those are ABS and this board comes with double shot PBT.

cyber_puttyThanks for the tip but I'll probably pass since some reviews said that it's got a pretty strong adhesive and I'd like to be able to remove whatever I put in there without leaving a residue. It may come in handy for other things in the future though, it looks like it's meant for high heat.

JoshCraigI've seen LOTS of people complaining about the long solder tails contacting the case, but nothing other than that.

ObscureReference I ended up buying it, I think most of the issues are easy enough to fix and a full size aluminum keyboard is basically impossible to find. If there are issues that are not easily fixable, I just get it refunded and buy a different keyboard on my list, choosing the rarest option first.
