michael.d.haasMine also is acting strangely. According to the instructions, (I'm using a freshly charged Nightcore NL189 18650), when one first inserts a battery, it's supposed to automatically "check the type of battery, choose the driving parameter...the LED light and multi-functional display will be on for three seconds to indicate that the test is finished." This doesn't happen. If one presses the power switch, the mainb light comes on at high intensity, the display comes on for about 30 seconds (showing horizontal bars and "Imalent Mode"), but doesn't respond in any way to touch, then goes off. Pressing the mode button relights the display button, with bars but still no controlling function, changes the light to flashing, and then the display goes off. Continuing to press and briefly hold the display button elicits random behavior -- sometimes the display comes on without any lines perpendicular to its main axis, the main light does various forms of flashing, once I somehow got the red light to light, but there doesn't seem to be anything that resembles the description found in the instructions. Pressing the strobe button elicits a strobe flashing, but that varies between bright and strangely weak. After trying various things for 3 or 4 minutes, pressing the main power switch turns on the display without horizontal bars, but no light. Checking the battery in my Nightcore charger, the voltage is over 4 volts, and shows as almost fully charged. Is there a US customer service contact number? It's possible I'm just not understanding something. Machining and general build quality seem very excellent, but not so much, at least so far, the electronics.

michael.d.haasWait -- now I think I'm understanding it!! The mode "button" actually switches on the mode "screen;" pressing on the word "mode" of the screen switches modes, and, in some modes at least, controls the output intensity. Will have to play with it further, but things look good. I hope there's a way around what @freonr22 noticed, as I was hoping to be able to use this camping, by hanging the light from a branch to be activated if one wanted to go out of the tent in the dark.
Luckily for me, there was no qualifying IQ test required for this buy.
