Praised by Wired, Stuff, and The Verge, the Impossible I-1 is the first new camera system for the original Polaroid photo format in more than a decade. Similar enough to the Polaroids of yore to feel familiar, the I-1 has been updated with a host of modern, user-friendly features. For full control, the manual mode lets you adjust aperture, shutter speed, flash, and focus distance. And for greater flexibility, the remote trigger and self-timer allow you to shoot from in front of the lens or put yourself in the frame. The I-1 app (available in the App Store and Google Play) gives you access to creative techniques like double exposures, light and color paintings, and more. Shooting portraits? The app’s light sensor works with the camera’s advanced ring flash to provide the ideal lighting.
Note: This drop includes the I-1 camera. At checkout, you can add the 4669 B&W film (+ $12.99), the 4833 color film with gradient frame (+ $12.99), the 4832 color film with rose gold frame (+ $12.99), the 4668 Color film (+ $13.49), the 4843 film set (1 color and 1 B&W film set) (+ $25.99), and a Polaroid photo box (+ $6.99).
Each film 3-pack includes two color packs and one black-and-white pack, with eight instant photos per pack. All films feature classic white frames, and the formulas produce photos with depth, contrast, and distinctive analog texture. Images begin to emerge within a minute (black and white) or two (color), with full development taking 5 to 10 minutes for black-and-white photos and 20–30 minutes for color. The I-1 works with any 600-type film, but the company’s I-type film is optimized for I-type cameras and doesn’t contain batteries, making it more energy efficient.
The Impossible Project carries the Polaroid torch into the 21st century. Founded in 2008 by a handful of former Polaroid employees, who purchased the world’s last remaining Polaroid factory in hopes of saving 200 million cameras from extinction, the Impossible Project produces and distributes instant film, and also refurbishes old cameras. Today, the company is headquartered in Berlin, and comprises more than 140 employees in seven countries.
