I'm not a big fan of blank keys, so I got this drop without keycaps and was planning to do a custom set from http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set/87-key-cherry-mx-keycap-set.html
Wondering if anyone is doing the same or has experience with WASD custom keycaps?

auggernautI'm doing the same, though I went with the 105-key set as it was only three dollars more and would give me more layout options.

RichardEHow do you plan to cover an ergodox with keys from a 105 key layout? are you ordering additional non 1u keys?

RichardEAh cool, thanks for that. Did you upload your own modified vector? If so, mind sharing it?

MrBaxterYeah good question. How many/which additional keys might we need to order?

MrBaxterGood catch :) - Originally I was going to get the Granite set, but it ended being too much for the options I wanted. You inspired me to look at wasd. I copied the Gotham font from Granite and changed it to give me the keys I wanted. To get the remaining ergodox keys, I got just the ErgoDoxian set in the Granite drop.

auggernautI did upload my own vector, but I've not received my order yet, so it may turn out to be a terrible mess – I'm hesitant to share until I see what I've ordered. Also, you and everyone may not like my layout. My wife uses QWERTY. I use DVORAK and I want my children to learn DVORAK. So the layout has both qwerty and dvorak printed on the keys. I prefer the blank aesthetic but in my home I need bright printed keys to attract little hands to programming.
I'd recommend spending some time with the vector file in the Inkspace app. It's something to play with whilst we wait for the Ergodox to arrive. (Now, I've just got to work out where to put my λ key in my layout.)

auggernautThe previous massdrop drop https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ergodox-keycap contained:
16 - Row 1 - 1u 14 - Row 2 - 1u 10 - Row 3 - 1u 20 - Row 4 - 1u 2 - Row 1 - 1.5u 2 - Row 2 - 1.5u 6 - Row 3 - 1.5u 2 - Row 4 - 1.5u 4 - Row 2 - 2u
For the correct profile.
So judging by that and the fact the wasd ansi layout looks to have 2 R3 1x1.5 so you'll need an additional:
2 - Row 1 - 1.5u 2 - Row 2 - 1.5u 3 - Row 3 - 1.5u 2 - Row 4 - 1.5u 4 - Row 2 - 2u
Additionaly you may need to shift your print templates up by one so the numbers are on the F keys and you can have them on the the top row with r1s on the bottom edge.
Alternatively signature plastics sell printed DSA keycaps for the alphas and digits along with blank ergodox DSA modifier sets which may prove a good deal cheaper.

auggernautA while back I ordered one of the sampler kits from WASD. The WASD key caps seemed pretty thin and didn't have much texture when compared to the DSA PBT caps from Signature Plastics.

RichardEThe Granite key caps were DSA, i.e. they have a uniform profile. The caps from WASD are more like DCS/OEM in that it has different profiles for different rows. It might be odd to mix the two.

skrooksYes, I was suggesting making a full DSA set from the packs available commerically from SA as a preferable alternative to the profiling headache.
For example the deep space http://keyshop.pimpmykeyboard.com/products/full-keysets/deep-space alphas and the ergodox add-on kit get you full coverage for less than the wasd kit when you factor in the additional purchases required.
(plus the deep space kit looks hella amazing)

skrooksYou're right – it might be odd. I'll give it a go, if I don't like it, I can always change it at a later date.

MrBaxterThanks MrBaxter! After a lot of hunting around I finally ended up going with the deep space kits you recommended. There's also blank ErgoDox add-on keys with the printed Eve set, for anyone looking at options: http://keyshop.pimpmykeyboard.com/products/full-keysets/eve

auggernautMy WASD keys arrived. Here's some images to give you an idea of what you get from them. If they ever offer DSA then I'd order again.
Skrooks comment of them seeming thin is fair, but I'd add that you shouldn't mistake that for low quality. I'm very pleased with WASD and their service.
Any mistakes in them are my own fault. But for a first attempt, I'm happy.

RichardEI, too, have not been able to resist the urge to build my own cargo-cult ErgoDox just to play with layouts. Seeing that graph paper mockup gave me the idea to share the PDFs I made. Being a dunb American I used US paper sizes, but they can probably be printed at actual size on other paper sizes.

I can't remember where origianlly I borrowed the vectors from, but whoever made them, thanks!

How much did the whole set cost you?

RichardEso I think i'm a bit stupid in how to design it. what options did you use to customize text box and legend?
**ok, i see how you can change the individual keycaps, but how did you change the legend? and what are the profiles that you used?

azeotropesYou can pick the colours of the keys in the keycap-set form: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set/105-key-iso-cherry-mx-keycap-set.html
If you want your own legends, there is an option to upload your own layout file. Click on “More Info” to get details, tutorials and templates. You need to edit the template in something like Inkscape. As they are DSC, take care where you place them on an Ergodox, as it may not look right. I wanted a different font to the one supplied, and to show qwerty and dvorak layouts so it took a while to complete. But it’s a lot of fun to do and you’ll be able to put your own unique stamp on your keyboard.
