So disappointed with this. After about a year and a half, my board is completely non-functional. All of the ports are starting to fail, and I have received 0 support from the InputClub team. My initial reaction to this board was glowingly positive, it seemed so well put together and thought out. However, having ports fail with minimal, gentle use is unacceptable, and the lack of response from the IC team has ruined any faith I have in this company. DO NOT waste your 200+ dollars on this board

fuo213Wanted to update this. Unfortunately my blame was somewhat misplaced as Massdrop was actually responsible for the manufacturing of this drop. I was able to get in touch with the IC team through their Discord and they were very helpful. Unfortunately, Massdrop only offers a 1 year warranty on their keyboards (stupid imo), so I'm more or less SOL. All I can say is don't waste your money on a Massdrop produced board... they'll leave you high and dry

linerrorHaha make me an offer.
I'm currently researching a dactyl build, and have considered desoldering all of my zealios switches to use there. I figure once I get the switches off I might have better access to the USB-C connection and may be able to solder on the replacement ports I bought. Just be aware that both USB-C ports are shot and will need to be repaired before the board is functional again. Who knows, might be easier to buy new zealios switches direct instead of desoldering everything

window_shoppingI'm in the process of desoldering every switch so I can remove the metal mounting plate. There is little to no access to the USB-C pins with it on, and the prongs are so tiny it's nearly impossible to get everything lined up with it on. Once I get the PCB and the mounting plate separated I'll re-solder the USB-C and see what happens and update! Not holding my breath though, so at the end of the day I might just harvest the switches, LCD screen, and Teensy board for use on a Dactyl build I'm working on :D

fuo213Hey.
I already researched what I need to resolder the ports. Looks harder than assembling the kit but probably doable. It's a shame how flimsy they turned out to be. And cables provided with the latest drop didn't help either since the connectors on them are very stiff.
Thanks for the update. Please post how it goes.

window_shoppingYea, I've talked with some people from IC and unfortunately Massdrop was responsible for the build on this drop, which is why they've experienced some build quality issues. Still doesn't excuse the design flaw where the ports have no support, and are basically held on by the solder and not a plastic bar or something... Desoldering so far hasn't been too hard, just tedious AF. I purchased a solder sucker though, so we'll see if that speeds things up! I'm guessing yours experienced a similar issue?

fuo213My issue is that if I lift it off the table and move it around too much one of the halves, sometimes both stop responding until reconnecting. Even though the displays stay on when this happens. Guess is it's either bad cables or bad port. So I'm researching the options in advance.

window_shoppingYea... I hate to say it but that's basically exactly what happened to mine before it failed. If you can, I'd recommend finding a piece of foam or something that you can shove under the ports to support them. The entire weight of the cable is basically supported by the solder points on the ports, so it's inevitable they'll fail :(.
I managed to desolder all the switches yesterday, but still haven't been able to pull the PCB off. There are trace amounts of solder still binding the prongs to the little copper inserts, and in some light prying I'm pretty sure I pulled up a part of the PCB on one of them. 90% sure it's trashed now, but at least I'll still have the switches, teensy board and screens. Super disappointed with the whole thing since I _really_ liked this board, but what can you do. I might buy a blank ergodox PCB in the future to rebuild, but this is basically the final nail in the coffin for me and massdrop. Offering a 1 year warranty on something so poorly constructed is stupid to say the least. Meanwhile my Chinese made Ergodox has been flawless for 4 years, I just hate that it has MX Browns!!

fuo213Yeah, well. I hope it'll last a while since I'm not moving it around or reconnecting too often. Will try to reinforce the ports too. It's going to be quite an exercise with the plate on though. And I still have the warranty so I'll try to contact MD and see what they say about this.
I'm enjoying this board very much too. What's this Chinese made Ergodox? Are referring to ErgoDone?
