This site is not just for group buys of completed products, it is also a community for enthusiasts around various topics such as mechanical keyboards. Massdrop provides a wonderful service to that community, which happily coincides with a business opportunity for them, by aggregating demand to provide access to items which would be prohibitive for individuals to purchase in single unit quantities or for which there is not consistent enough demand for a manufacturer to routinely product inventory.
This means that some of the drops (Ergodox, Infinity 60%, keycaps, etc) are produced on demand after the drop completes. This drop took much longer than expected by anyone, including Massdrop. People are entitled to their displeasure at the delays and at the lack of clarity around the state of the product at the time of the drop. But saying that this kind of drop is not appropriate is shortsighted, and I hope the Massdrop team doesn't listen to those comments.
I'm personally thankful to the Massdrop and Input Club teams for providing us with access to an exciting new keyboard that I would not have otherwise been able to source. I hope they keep doing these sorts of drops, and imagine they've learned a lot about the language to use for new products like this on the initial drop pages so that there won't be any confusion in the future.

imbriacoAccording to the website description, it's not written that here we can crowfunding project. All of this website give the impression to sell only finished products. Maybe it's how you see this website, but it's not how they show themself.

DramNonsense. Massdrop's self description describes it as group buys based on votes from the community of enthusiasts. They don't say anything like what you are claiming, in fact they specifically mention the original ErgoDox (which was a similar product to this one) as an example of how this place works. Sorry you are getting the wrong impression, but make no mistake: it's YOUR impression. Imbriaco's description is spot on.
Anyway, this has already been discussed ad nauseam. If you didn't realize what you got yourself into, Massdrop gave you the option to back out. Take the refund and stop beating this dead horse.

IaeenLess complaining about MD and complaining about complaining, and more talk about building the kit and programming the keyboard!! Anyone want to share their layouts?

AustinBristerI've been working on my layout using the old Dox configurator. I'm planning on implementing it using KLL and compiling my own firmware (which really doesn't look that hard). I think I'll upload my .kll files to github when I finish if any other Dvorak users want to use it as a starting point.
I've also been having a chat with HaaTa about the LED implementation. Apparently there's no way to control the LEDs with KLL ATM, but he said he will be implementing something basic soon. If I have some time, I'll get to work on a more advanced way to control the LEDs with the firmware. My hope is to be able to show the layer by highlighting a home row for each layer (ex: aoeu htns for Dvorak, wasd for gaming on QWERTY, highlight the numpad keys in the numbed layer, etc...).
Heres the layout as it currently stands: https://keyboard-configurator.massdrop.com/ext/ergodox/?referer=GYNDV5&hash=3a2832f8e0f708bf3da187ab4522b236

IaeenInteresting! So you plan to develop firmware that allows each layer to light up different LEDs? I take it you have confirmed that the hardware will allow for this?
Any other reason for developing your own firmware?
Any chance you can point me to some info on how to write a simple macro in KLL?

IaeenI have the JSON with my layout for the IC configurator, but I don't think most folks will appreciate the spam that would cause here :)
Anyway, it's my own interpretation of Colemak on a Dox, and similar to this one (except that I removed the QWERTY layer and added more media and aux functions in the IC one):

AustinBristerlaeen is likely just basing it off of Haata's firmware: https://github.com/kiibohd/controller/
(I'm doing the same thing, actually... the hardest part is figuring out the design of how the LEDs *should* work. Once that's ironed out, the rest is implementation detail.)

AustinBristerI would recommend looking through the KLL spec documentation available at input.club/kll.
My conversation with HaaTa took place on the kll forum on input.club, so you can read it if you want. He said the LED controller is powerful enough that you should even be able to play animations on it at 60fps.
I'm not planning on developing my own firmware, I'm going to expand on HaaTa's. If I come up with something useful, I'll request that it be pulled into kiibohd/controller.

IaeenSounds interesting, especially since you're doing a switchable Dvorak layout. I'll have to remember to find this and look at what you've got once I get my hands on my dox.

IaeenAre you really sure that's only my impression ? Can we find here any other crowfunding project ? Doest "group buys" mean "crowfunding a new project" ? About the original Ergodox, do you mean than there is no working Ergodox anywhere each time there is a new drop ?
"If you didn't realize what you got yourself into, Massdrop gave you the option to back out. Take the refund and stop beating this dead horse." Why ? Is there any other place where I can buy this keyboard ? Don't make me wrong, I'm still very excited about this keyboard, just very disapointed how this drop is made.

DramI think the problem is; this discussion is over all the complaining. Some people are upset yes, but you can get out of this drop if you want. However, as you say this is a unique opportunity to get a unique keyboard. There were issues with the drop, but for most of us it's time to move on. There has been a lot of arguing over this, and it's getting old. If you are that upset maybe contact Massdrop support, but by complaining here you are only annoying the rest of us that just want to move on.

daniel.walmsleyTotally agree. We've experienced temporary setbacks on a project that is otherwise going to get us some awesome new keyboards. It's time to move on and get ready to start enjoying them.
Without Massdrop, I don't think this keyboard would even exist. I'm grateful for the guys at Massdrop who are working hard to mass produce these fancy new keyboards even if things don't always go as smoothly as we would like. At the end of the day, they are still bringing these projects to life.
