Would strain on the Micro-USB connector from the 1' USB cable still cause the PCB to become damaged - even pull off the PCB at times?
Basically, I'm asking, whether this is literally the same build as last time or does it have iterative improvements on the well known "issues" as the one noted above?

UncoolBeanWe asked the PCB to put epoxy on the Micro-USB connector in the factory which seemed to work quite well for the final batch of the last run. The PCB itself has no changes (other than working with the PCB fab to get the quality higher). The case has a bunch of updates (flashing hole, fixing potential LCD issues, potential keycap clearance issues).

HaaTaCan I buy the new cases separately? Would love to re-home my PCBs into one without LCD issues.

FujinI'll talk with MD about it, in the past it's been pretty hard to convince them to do this.
We can make the files for the case available right away this time, so it might be easier just to find your local laser cutter and get some acrylic cut. Afaik, there were no changes to the plate.

HaaTaWould it drive up the cost by too much to put the USB on a small, separate board or a small wired connector, rather than having it fixed directly to the PCB? Not for this batch of course, but is that something that would be possible the in the future, or would it end up driving up the cost?
Love what you guys have been doing, by the way. I'm super excited to see what input.club releases in the future :]

UncoolBeanI have toyed around with this a few times perhaps even just putting some usb breakout pins, but doing this for anything beyond usb gets unyieldy due to the pin count. As Input Club finalizes using USB Type C (http://input.club/k-type) we'll be looking at standardizing with it (it's not quite as straightforward to put on a pcb as previous USB connectors).

HaaTaWill USB Type C be implemented on this drop?

SleepJunkie@SleepJunkie no, the micro-b connector is reinforced with epoxy. It works just fine for me when i put on epoxy.

HaaTaI just put mine into regular use and the connector on the left hand side broke off completely whilst i was trying to remove the cable to store it. I know it's a known issue, but now I'm destined to dedicate the rest of my afternoon de-soldering that side to see if I can re-solder and reinforce that connector.
I am not going to flame or blame anybody, I know your team takes this stuff very seriously and does a lot of work behind the scenes to make stuff right before it gets to us. I'm just super bummed out. Once I get this resolved I will apply epoxy to both connectors to make sure this is less likely to happen in the future.
Keep doing god's work.

NoiseTrackerRather than trying to re solder the USB, you can send a support request to Massdrop and they'll ship you a shiny new PCB with the USB port reinforced with epoxy. Downside is you have to wait for shipping; upside is the port will be reinforced and probably won't break again.

IaeenI will give that a shot.
