jontptI will say Ingersoll watches do come in the best boxes ever! I love the actual solid wood boxes they come in..with that said, Ingersoll (at least from the one I've owned) makes decent watches for their price point!

bigred25929 It's true, they're decent and they work--and if you buy 'em here, you get a much better deal than damn near anywhere else. As for the boxes, I've never found a use for them afterwards and I'm certainly no fan of global deforestation!

bigred25929I'm sure these watches run and operate just fine, as do most found on Aliexpress and other Chinese marketplaces. Thing is, the money spent on packaging could be used on the watch itself. Unless one's planning to install a band or bracelet on the box (lug-to-lug might be a little extreme), what's the point? Fancy packaging is understandable for watches costing thousands of dollars, but a "dollar watch"? Not so much, imho.

jontpt I suppose when you form your own watch company, you and the guys in marketing can make all the decisions you're suggesting--dump that costly wooden box for cardboard, and use the savings to upgrade the movement to a Selita SW220-1, a valjoux 7750, or maybe one of those fancy coaxial movements from Omega? So tell me--how much you gonna charge for you hundred-dollar watches?

RayFWell, Ray, when I do form my own company I'm sure you won't be interested since you seem to favor cheeeeep over quality, but yeah, something along those lines. And they won't cost $99 since I wouldn't use $5 movements made with child labor, no doubt. But hey - enjoy those Asian panatellas that come with every Ingersoll. I hear they're homages of Cuban Montecristos!

jontpt You know, for a guy who claims to be anti "cheap," I can't help noticing you sure spend a lot of time on the inexpensive watch drop pages.

RayFMorbid curiosity. I spend a lot more time on the quality pages, and avoid quartz altogether.

jontpt Oh yes because lord knows none of the good watches use quartz movements, right? My advice: when you suddenly discover you’ve dug yourself into a hole, first thing to do is stop digging.

RayFTell you what, Herr Commentsfuehrer, when and if I ever discover that I'll take your advice - but I don't expect it's gonna happen anytime soon, and certainly not here.

jontptYou need at least one good quartz watch! Its great to just have a pick up and go watch that you don't have to worry about! And we both know quartz is more accurate. You could opt for maybe a Longines VHP since you like high end! :)

bigred25929Well, I've had a Certina DS 2 Precidrive with the 27j ETA quartz movement but I just couldn't get over its "quartziness," although it was a pretty nice watch. Nowadays if I really want to grab and go I'll grab one of my two pre-quartz electronic watches and, well, go. Same "always on" as a quartz but much cooler, imo.
