I have tried searching for some information on the "Cursive Stub" nibs, but have had little luck in finding out anything useful, most articles talk about Cursive Italics. Can anyone fill me in on what a "fine cursive stub" nib will write like please.
TasselhoffIts a fine (width) italic with the corners softened.
edit: So it will have line variation the same as an Italic (no flex) but not as defined as a true Italic with the plus side is a smoother transition due to the lack of sharp corners. Viable as an everyday writer if you want to give your writing a slight aesthetic flourish without going to the extremes of true Italics & flex nibs.
Also, I very much doubt they are made in England- as far as I remember they are "hand finished" (whatever that means) in the UK but made in China.
kaboomThanks. Sounds like it may be worth a shot! I got the 18k Gold Medium nib last time around with the Parsons Essential, and I have had some trouble adapting to it. Thought I may get something different this time.
TasselhoffI found this webpage that was helpful for comparing some of the different nibs:
http://www.nibs.com/Fountain-Pen-Nib-Customizations.htm
I should add that Italix points out on their website that fine stubs, or fine italics, will not show much variation in the line, here it is verbatim: "Please note the finer the italic the less obvious is the thick and thin line definition. Our fine italic only shows a marginal difference between the thick and thin strokes." (For this reason, I myself chose a medium stub and a medium italic.)
Regarding manufacture, this is what Mr. Pen states on the Italix splash page: "Italix Pens are made in England, Germany and the Far East exclusively for MrPen."
EreshkigalIt's subjective, but always good to have input from someone who actually has one.
From Mr. Pen's website again, Captain's Commission page: "Medium italic 1.1 mm approx on the broad stroke, Broad italic 1.3mm approx on the broad stroke. We offer a fine italic at about 0.85 mm on the broad stroke. The Fine Italic is slightly cursive as it is cut at the tip of the pellet. It is not as fine as other Italix models."
Hope that helps anyone trying to decide.
If you Google "Italix stub writing examples" or similar keywords, you'll get a lot of images that show how the pens behave, but again, because people's writing styles are different, plus paper and ink choice will make a difference, your mileage may vary :)
IAmHollandThis writing example link is super informative. Thanks for sharing. If these are indeed representative of Italix's nib offerings, then I have made the right choice for what I need. :)
IAmHollandThe nibs on the Parson's Essential are technically different from the Captain's Commission nibs (which is why this writing sample image was not used for the CC), but we have gotten confirmation from the manufacturer that they are pretty darn close. This writing sample should be a decent reference for those unsure of what nib to select, but of course, performance will vary with different inks and paper.
Hope that helps!
