A custom-grind Parson's Essential should be on every fountain pen user's path of discovery. This pen stands alone as the next step after a Safari, Metropolitan or similar intro. Or, in other words, this is the answer to: What do I get next?

TherocI have one of these with a reverse oblique (being a lefty). I find I don't need it or particularly like the grind. But the pen is so damn well-balanced, smooth, and good looking, I just ordered one in green from mr pen with a regular broad nib. Agreed, these are excellent pens.

Thw1990Indeed! And I must say, I LOVE my green pen with the broad nib. Inked with Robert Oster Tranquility, it's magnificent.

TherocI think the Deacon’s Doodle has taken over that spot. I would love to check out Italix’s entire lineup perhaps at a pen show. I know I want another, just not sure which model.

MrSharkbaitIt is certainly cheaper, however, the Doodle has limited grind options. The only pen from their line up that I still want is the Imperium State. Having owned the Parson's, the Churchman's, the Viper Strike and the Commodore, I can say that the two best buys are the Parson's and the Churchman's, with the Parson's being more comfortable to write with, but the Churchman's a having a more substantial size and nib. It seems to me that the Imperium State has the handling comfort of the Parson's and the substance of the Churchman's. I can't wait to know for sure.

TherocAgreed with the greater selection, but the Doodle’s options hit the sweet spot for Italics writing IMHO. I got the oblique nib, and I had to research to learn not only how to write with it, but why you would want to use one. It was incredibly rewarding.
I am also eyeing the Imperium State. I am a bit concerened though that only the black lacquer version is on Mr. Pen’s site, as I prefer the metal version. That clip is a head turner! The English Curate and Captain’s Commission are also interesting.

MrSharkbaitI joined a drop for the English Curate a while back, it didn't even hit the lowest price point. In the end I lost interest in it. I never liked the design of the section to begin with and I read one too many complaints about it. The English Curate and the Imperium State are the only two Italix pens made* in the UK, and the Curate seems to have quality issues.
*I am referring to the pen bodies here, not the nib work of course.
