All you people sound like you’ve never heard of sales from other brands.
  1. Yes this is a good price. When compared to FULL PRICED other brands. But most of the other brands rarely run at full price anymore. So the value you are getting is somewhat diminished and minimal. Yes JF started with online and pricing competitively, but most traditional brands have also followed suit
  2. JF is just subcontracting this shoe to a factory in Portugal. Most traditional brands have their own manufacturing. While this is not bad, this greatly cuts down capacity to offer value to the customer.
  3. JF is a brand promoting traditional shoe excellence and deriding the “fashion” aspect of shoes. But as it gets more uncompetitive in pricing, it’s slowly going against what it has stood for and has been promoting their “fashion” aspect.
  4. There are brands within earshot of JF with much better value because these brands own the manufacturing. Hell Meermin is $200 and they don’t need Massdrop. Cobbler Union is also fantastic (but doesn’t own manufacturing). Crockett Jones is also in earshot.
  5. While I do like what Justin has done online, but his rigid stance to accept the market scenario and to adjust the pricing is very detrimental to JF. People are copying and getting away with it because of JF prices very high.
  6. Yes. better exists for cheaper and amazing exists within an earshot. Do your research. Because if JF is not adjusting, you as the customer should.
All this being said this is good value. But now better value exists elsewhere. The market has changed and moved. While most brands are increasing volume by cutting the price (even all that Justin admires on his blog), JF is sadly stuck on what he had vowed to fix: innovate in the given environment.

CoffeegroovePeople posted comments here are shopping around different brands, so they know a "good value" when they see it, including sale prices from other brands. Not sure why you are so upset with JF as a brand - looks like there are many happy customers on MassDrop. I don't have any JF shoes, but I would like to try these first.
CoffeegrooveFunny how you took so long to write something that doesnt matter. People on MD are looking for a good deal. They dont care if it is compared to another brands full price. Its the price here they care about. And why would you take so much time out of your life to try and convince people of your opinion? Just because you say something doesnt make it so fyi. Edit: After reading your comments on other drops it would appear that you are simply a troll trying to take down what you can and greatly hating on Massdrop. Go somewhere else please

CoffeegrooveI have 1 pair of J. Fitzpatrick and 3 pairs of Meermin. J. Fitzpatrick is a much better made shoe. You're comment is unhelpful and comes across as snarky and petty.

TheShoeSnobA bit over the top for one of MD's vendors to call one of MD's customers @Coffeegroove names and suggest their contributions to the discussion are unimportant, don't you think? As another one of MD's customers (and an occasional commenter), my suggestion is that you let your products and prices do your talking for you, while you keep your comments about us, under your hat. [moderated]
RayFThanks for showing me who is the bigger man Ray. And no I dont agree with you. As a blogger of 9 years I have dealt with countless trolls and if you read his comments all he does is comment negativity. I stand against trolls, vendor or no vendor. Yes I could be bigger and not comment at all. Sure. But sometimes I cant help myself. [moderated]

CoffeegrooveMeermin is a good shoe for its price point but not at the same quality as higher point price point shoes. Plus Meermin has a good portion of the shoe construction is in China to get to its price point. The shoes are comfy and fine but not consistent in the three pairs I have. I use them for everyday work but wouldn’t use them for an occasion or party.

CoffeegrooveI have three Meermins. They’re nice shoes, but they are a far cry from J Fitzpatrick. A better comparison is Carmina or Carlos Santos, and both are comparably priced.

TheShoeSnobIncase anyone has missed it, Massdrop is not about discounts. Its more about marketing unused goods at a volume. That’s good and bad. Sometimes they nail it and a lot of the times it’s about pushing stuff to unsuspecting buyers. The comments section help dissipate some of those fears.  But when the owners call someone a troll because they question its value, is a new low. I’ve questioned the value of Cobbler Union on styleforum. But they did not call me a troll. Same with Carmina. Have criticized Meermin’s break ins and delays -but the CS still stayed with me. They even solved some mistakes.  A lot of instabrand do however have used this. Mainly Paul Evans. And now JF. You think everyone that hates MVMT watches are trolls? It’s simply unwilling to accept the obvious.  JF has had a good run when no one was doing stuff online. But Carmina is just light years ahead. Cobbler Union for some reason have also achieved a lot more (also helps if owners sign personalized letters instead of calling paying customers trolls).  Most brands in this scenario need to own manufacturing. If they don’t, they need to own the volume to command prices in manufacturing. While every shoemaker has artificially created a shell cordovan crisis as an excuse increase prices, Meermin has done the opposite. They turn out shell cordovan shoes every other week cheaper than anyone. They make their volumes work for them. Yes they are made in China. But who cares, the quality, value and craftsmanship is still there. That is something that is very hard to do without volume or owning your own manufacturing.  I think for transparency, Massdrop needs to tell everyone their cut in the sales process. It’s not a volume discount if the value does not exist.
CoffeegrooveAll of your comments on MD are negative. Thats what trolls do. You dont have one positive comment. Many people have criticized my shoes in an honest way in the past and I didnt call them a troll because they were just telling their opinion without trying to convince everyone else to follow suit. Your hidden agenda is obvious. You sound just like other ones I dealt with on other forums. Hence why other people also commented on your apparent disdain and hate for my brand. Have you even owned a pair? Either way I wasted enough time now. Good day

CoffeegrooveProof’s in the pudding. Do you really consider Carmina to be that much better? In what concrete ways?

TheShoeSnobAgreed. I have checked his comments on MassDrop as well, and they are mostly against MassDrop as a platform, nothing about his personal experience with the product, except strange claims that leather sole lasts just as long as rubber soles, MD branding on the back patch of the jeans etc. I will not comment on his posts, which are not helping members here.

ZZ_UPennCuriously, he also has a comment where he endorses the brand: > Massdrop has had better shoes than this (Loake, Allen Edmonds, Carmina, J Fitzpatrick). No explanation of what has changed his mind since then.

tegeus-CromisThat's probably what "trolling" means :). Whatever necessary to make a negative comment against MassDrop.

ZZ_UPennLol it's not like Edward Green is going to be selling shoes on massdrop. I was lucky enough to find a pair of Edward Green monkstrap in a Saks off 5 for $800.
