Love the looks of this one, but unfamiliar with it....is it really worth twice the price of the metallic Diamine in the other drop?

KavikThe Diamine Shimmertastic line came out well after the J. Herbin 1670 series, which introduced the fountain pen fandom to shimmering inks via Rouge Hematite and, as one reviewer put it, 'nearly broke the internet' lol. This is from the 1798 series which apparently improves upon the 1670's bottle shape for easier access for the nib and feed of a pen. You're paying for prestige, and I would argue a bottle that won't tip over as easily as the Diamine Shimmertastics. (I don't have the 1798, only 1670s and the Shimmertastics, and the Shimmertastics are fairly long, tall bottles with narrow necks that would be a tipping risk)
But in the end it's more down to whether you prefer this color over the Shimmertastics, and whether you foresee a need for two bottles (one to give to a good friend?). Look through fountainpennetwork's various reviews of both collections and compare swatches. (This might help https://goldspot.com/blogs/magazine/introducing-jacques-herbin-1798-amethyste-de-loural-ink)

LocomotorAppreciate the info and the link to additional reading material, thank you.
I do like the coloring of this one better after seeing them side by side, but for me I think I'm going to pass. Based on the relatively small amount of writing I do for the amount of ink I already just ordered (and the 3 bottles I have on hand that I've barely made a dent in) .....I'm never going to go through all of this as it is. And I need to curb myself somewhere before the collections get any further out of hand lol

KavikKavik, it is definitely worth paying extra for this ink. The diamine shimmertastic collection is lovely, and this one is just extra special. I have a visconti that is super finicky about sparkly inks, and the Amethyste de l'Oural seems to be smoother and better lubricated. A little thinner, but no less saturated for it. Also, Diamine does not have such a deep, rich and vibrant purple with silver shimmer - the lilac satin is lighter and not so majestic. So, it really depends what it is you are seeking. I highly recommend this gorgeous ink!

laurayncaraThank you! Made up my mind and going for it! Despite my twenty year ink hoard...

LocomotorWorst ink ever is from 1929 series: Black Friday. Half of it evaporates overnight and the bottle eventually falls over and ruins the 1930’s series up to WW2.
