I use a comparable 9" throat mid arm machine on a quilting frame without a problem. Yes the span is shorter and I have to wind my quilt to the next section more frequently, but as far as coverage I have quilted queen sized quilts just fine. I load the larger quilts lengthwise which helps. The beginning span is about 8". I prefer 2 passes of a 4" design, which is narrow but I find it works well for what I do. I have a stitch regulator on the machine also and the stitch quality rivals any of the expensive long arm machines. As a good entry to quilting, this isn't a bad option.

I have the Singer S16 (which is the clone of the Janome 1600P) on my SR2 frame . This combo works great for me as well. I was worried the 9" throat would be too limiting, but my quilts have turned out beautiful.

liz72703Mine have also. People are amazed when I tell them what I quilt with. They assume it's a full sized long arm.
