These monitors do not sound good. They sound like 100 dollar monitors.... heres the problem low cost monitors can not afford to use quality components and a wave guide for the highs will not help that nor fix that problem... you will just sit there listening to the speaker turning it up and giving your self tinitus trying to hear the changes you want to make through the noise (which sounds like a blanket over your mix... even the cheapest one cone monitors auratone or the like cost more than this and need to be paired with a bryston or the like amplifier because they arent amplified...
basically regaurdless of the quality of convertor you have, even if its high end... you will be listening to mud... Im not here trying to be rude im trying tell you if youve ever had the pleasure to listen to Focals or genelecs or PMC or ATC or ns-10's... save your 100 bucks and save up for speakers that are completely transparent... not some monitors that cost less than a good pair of headphones your wasting your money

Jeff89I don't think anyone's buying these for their primary music listening experience. You're right that getting an amp and some nice passive speakers is way better, but for someone just looking to have some speakers on a desktop when you don't feel like wearing headphones or if more than 1 person wants to hear the audio, they're not a bad deal. They're a great deal at $100 each I think for what they do. They're not trying to compete with monitors from Focal, paradigm, or whoever.

AnentAGREED ; )
I use them as PC Speakers only and they are head and shoulders above any other speaker set priced at this level. Nothing touches them at all. If you want booming sound these deliver it in truck loads but also if you want to hear clear highs it still accomplishes it.
These aren't meant to compete with $2000+USD speakers at all, so any clown still pontificating that these are sub par to those kind of speaker sets, are correct. But these only cost under $100 each, for that price it delivers something far more than any other product out in the market place today.

ibbilboLol ifnorance is putting this speaker in a hi-fi category... thats all im saying, ive met a plethora of producers and people who work on speakers like this and some cheap focusrite interface and they alway complain... why does my stuff not sound professional... its made by a professional company what gives... theres nothing wrong with buying these speakers i just dont agree with anybody saying their great sounding speakers... loud does not equal great... im not saying you need to go spend 4000 for a pair of monitors... you mis interepret the message im trying to get across. There are 200 or so people that just threw down 250 bucks for a piece of shit speakers all im trying to say is that if you held out and doubled that you could get entry level focals which are probably good wnough to master on in a decent sounding room... dont get mad cause because Im trying to warn you that your money could be better spent from actual experience

AnentFirst off your wrong in comparing these to a porsche 911 ive been in plenty and they use bose sound systems.... so if you want to go apples to apples then these jbl's are like a ford pinto, with a gas tank that would explode if someone rear ended you... no one is saying you even need to spend 1k on monitors there are plenty descent ones for under that.... and im not shitting on JBL they do make some great monitors... these are just not it so forgive me for trying to steer people away from garbage and keep that hard earned cash for something worth having

ElrickExactly my worry is not for someone who just wants something to get loud and ill agree with that statement... I do get frustrated when i said in the first statement that i know that a few people that buy these will damage their hearing and if they spent a bit more time disecting my statement instead of commenting that I run around vomiting ignorance for trying to give them some sound advice(PUN! ;D) in which if they are serious about music they will end stepping their game up gear wise, anyway. A year from now and spend the extra dough for something great.... instead of well... those

AnentBtw, I'll be using my speakers at the PC when others want to hear music (otherwise my Senn 6xx) AND outside at the pool...not the best usage of higher end (i.e., pricier) units. ;)

Jeff89This might be the biggest load of shite I've read in a long time. I've gone through a ton of monitors in all price ranges, and while obviously a $1000 monitor is going to sound better than these, they pack a ridiculous punch at their price point. I have yet to find a monitor even close to the price of these who sound anywhere near as good. Mud my ass.

Jeff89If you're talking about the Alpha series I disagree entirely. The 305's are very much in the same league as the entry Focals. For stereo imaging I would GLADLY take the 305's over the hyper-directional Alphas. Sure, the 305's won't compete with $800+ pair monitors like the CMS series or entry Eve audio monitors, but the 305's have no problem competing at twice their price point. None at all.

Jeff89Also, note that the JBL's have a 5 year warranty, where as the Focals only come with two years. If you're the kind of person like me who travels from show to show with monitors, this is very important.
