I am sorry I am new to the mech world. I would love to start getting custom key caps but can someone tell me why this is so expensive? Is this supply and demand at its peak?
Edit Is this normal pricing for custom key caps? then fuuuuuuuudge what did I get into

Kiefer404You can find full SA sets like Dasher and Dancer that recently ran for under $100. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/dasher-and-dancer-sa-custom-keycap-set
This is an artisan cap, custom made and sold as an individual key at a high price due to it being handmade.

Kiefer404You haven't gotten into anything yet.
Think of these as Boutique one offs. Because that's essentially what they are. Even if they only make 50 or 10,000 there are still only 10,000 made out of 7 billion people. Aside from all the materials and all the time it takes to make one of these. I think price is cheap.
Look at the spinning Tops on this website. They range anywhere from $25 all the way up to hundreds of dollars. It's a piece of metal put on a CNC machine. Very simplistic compared to a key cap in my opinion. Granted they still spend time finishing the top. Yet not many people complain.
I find it hilarious. If you like it. Buy it. That's how I live.

Kiefer404It really depends. It is a niche market so there is a price increase due to the smaller volume of buyers so materials are not bought in bulk, there is less automation in the production so it is slower and requires more people-power to complete, and it is in the realm of collectibles which also adds some cost depending on the collectibility/desirability.
