Received both my 5 in 1 mini hubs yesterday, I love the V2, the USB C cable fits snug into the power port, and the adapter fits snug into the laptop. I picked up the original (V1) as well because I wanted to be able to use the Mini Display port as a video out, since V2 does not have any video out ports.
Here's a quick run down.
V1
- Space Grey is not actually Space Grey (Inaccurate Color) - The USB C Port is not the same as the port used in V2. The USB C cable does not fit snugly into the adapter and the connection between the adapter and my laptop seems finicky. I have tried all four of my USB C ports and only one of them detects the charger being plugged in. The other 3 freak out and confuse the laptop.. (Charging!..Not Charging!..Charging!..Not Charging!..Charging!..Not Charging!..Charging!) - No USB 3.0
Looks : 5/10 (Doesn't match laptop color) Build Quality : 6/10 (USB-C cable does not fit sung, adapter hovers off desk while plugged in) Modernization : 6/10 (Has Video out and Micro USB, but still using USB 2.0 ports)
V2 - Hey this one actually matches my laptop color. (Is actually Space Grey) - USB C Cable fits snug, connection to laptop is snug and charge is detected every time right away. - No Video Out - USB 3.0
Looks : 10/10 (Matches the theme well) Build Quality : 8/10 (Hovers off desk while in use.) Modernization : 8/10 (USB 3.0, but no Video Out? WTH?)
I may consider returning the V1 adapter and just keeping V2, yet since V2 has no Video Out ports, I'm tempted to hang on to it for just that. Since Apple was already so kind and intuitive as to ignore video out on their new laptops.
Both versions lose points in Build Quality because they hover in the air while in the laptop, which leaves both adapters VERY prone to the chance of breaking off while plugged in. The last thing I want to happen is one of the USB C ports to be destroyed beyond use. A very small few millimeter thick rubber foot would have easily and inexpensively solved this issue had more time gone into creating it.
tl;dr - Don't buy V1, buy V2 and be careful while using it. Very delicate.
