Does anyone else feel that MassDrop keeps pushing obscure watch brands on us, (such as Junghans, Glycine and Orient) while acting that they are perfectly mainstream names? I own several watches and confess I had never heard of these until MassDrop. I'm not saying they are not nice, (and am not trying to be offensive) and I'm open to exploring other brands, but these seem rather random and possibly tailor made for this audience. Any thoughts on this?

BarryBogaveOrient was considered the top three watch company’s out of japan with Seiko and Citizen. Glycine has a long aviation history and Junghans has been around since 1861 and is a prominent German watch maker.

JLNoirOK, as I said I didn't want to be offensive or obtuse, so I'll educate myself on them. As a side note, it does seem like every single brand out of Switzerland and Germany, no matter how tiny or new, somehow manages to date back their history to the 1700 or 1800's, so I wouldn't necessary give that fact a ton of credence. Many new companies and/or hedge funds buy old brands and resurrect some untraceable heritage and claim it to be real. That said, I will look into these as well. Thanks for your response!

BarryBogaveDidn’t mean to come off as offended. But your right about that, look at Invicta for example their an old watch company and their name was bought in the early 2000’s I believe and they state every two seconds how old their company is.

JLNoirAnd ironically Invicta (which I can't stand), recently bought Glycine in 2016 (seems like a real shame).

BarryBogaveInvicta has made lots of money selling watches at Neiman-Marcus, and Glycine was a small, quality company. Invicta may have hoped that the purchase would make their brand seem classier, not that that matters.

BarryBogaveI guess you're not any sort of enthusiast, by the loosest possible definition. Not like that's a bad thing, it's just not well received in the comments section of MD on expensive watches lol. Junghans and Glycine are huge names when you take a look beyond the Rollies and Pateks. They're some of the coolest and most known brands in Germany. While Junghans is less accessible than, say, Junkers, they're still amazing. And Orient? Big guy out of the East. Owned by Seiko, their Orient Star line bring top-end design, features and quality to a more affordable and sane level. I'm not too concerned yet about Glycine being owned by Invicta. I think Invicta knows their perception, and wants to keep Glycine more traditional, since it helps legitimize their main brand.
