Gender neutral?!? What?!?
This smells like mother nature. That is a lady, yes?
FWIW, I have a boutique in my city that sells the full line of these products. I would go in there every now and then to sample the various scents. It really is nice to actually smell them in person. I thought I was in love with Siskiyou and bought a bottle of the trail soap, then a bottle of the cologne, and then the balm. I thought the other scents were a little one dimensional. After a while, I also ended up with a bottle of Big Sur trail soap, and a bottle of Mojave trail soap.
Funny thing is, once I got everything home and started using them, I actually like Siskiyou the least, and Big Sur the most. I would have never thought that by the numerous times I smelled them in the store.
I find Big Sur most comforting. It's got a big, piney low note that's like a big bear hug. Mojave is interesting, and I like it for a smokey note. I find Siskiyou to be more tilted to the high, bright notes, and it doesn't have the body of the other two.
I wonder how much this changes from batch to batch. Of course, everyone likes differently, so I'm sure these would be ranked differently by others.

K.T.NI am enjoying this "discussion" more than I might the actual scents :)

K.T.NScents also change with your body chemistry....are you saying you like the scents differently before or after you apply them?

FriggaDYeah, everyone has a different body scent, and some products that may work for one person may not with another. The two chemistries commingle. It's hard to say what the final outcome will be.
I remember back in in the day, there was a cologne called Joop. My brother loved it, and it smelled nice when he wore it. When I put it on, however, it smelled like a dried out innertube from a bicycle. The way it interacted with my body chemistry created a result that was not desirable.
With the scents I mentioned above, I'm not sure if it's how it interacts with my body, or whether it's batch-to-batch variation in the same product. For example, I don't think scent of the Siskiyou trail soap lives up to what I sampled in the store, whether I just sniff it out of the bottle or use it on my body. Maybe product variation, here?
Although I find the Siskiyou liquid cologne, which I also purchased from a drop here, much more satisfactory, although still not up to the level I experienced in the store.
Funny thing is, it also worked the other way around. Some of the scents I found too basic and overpowering in the store, I ended up liking, like Big Sur and Mojave. At least in the trail soaps I have. And in the store I tired both sniffing straight from the bottle, and trying it on my wrists over various visits.
I think there are a few things at play, here: 1) product variation among the samples (it is based on natural ingredients, so you'd expect some degree of variation among batches even if the basic scent is largely the same), 2) variation in scent based on body chemistry interaction, 3) mental shenanigans - my own expectations influencing my perception in whatever sensible or convoluted way.
But I do think it's a good product line, regardless.
