The HoverDock is designed to the Apple spec and the cable used must have the same slim size connector as Apple original Lightning Cable. We have seen other brands, like Monoprice retailing $7-$10/ea, that uses the same size connector. Another excellent source of discounted, genuine, Apple original Lightning cable $13/ea is at OtherWorldComputing, https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/MD818ZMA/. The cable dock is precision designed so using other sized cable will make removing the cable difficult. The dock is designed to take in a cable and then left there for the lifetime of the product.

howard3849Just want to add, I haven't tried the one sold here, but I'm frequently in the Apple Store nearby and seeing their docks.
One thing to consider for concerned people looking to buy, the dock should just be sitting on a table or nightstand, not picked up and moved around where any stress would be applied to the cable. If the dock just sits there, with at least a little slack, then there won't be any worse stress on the cable than laying the phone on the table and plugging it in to charge. If the user intends to rotate the dock more than 45° in each direction, then I would suggest unplugging the cable first and repositioning it.
Otterbox Defender and huge cases like that may have trouble plugging into this Dock or Apple's, but "Made For iPhone" certified cases specifically have to be compatible with accessories like this and will work fine (Apple's cases, Tech21, TwelveSouth, Kavaj, etc). I saw a quadcopter drone zoom out of control and crash into an iPhone on a Dock glued to the table in an Apple Store when I was there, the employees stopped the test drive and the phone was a little unseated from the dock, but both the dock and phone were fine and working. I have seen children push back on the phone while docked so much that they break the lightning connector off; don't do this. I work in the same mall, you see all sorts of things happen.
One reason the Apple dock costs $39 or $49 is because it also includes a line-out in addition to the lightning port, and for the audio buffs that means the Dock has a DAC chip in it (and will provide a clean, line-level signal out to powered speakers or a headphone amp). The JustMobile dock does not (that's fine, I have much better DACs than ones costing just $20).
I've always wanted a dock, couldn't bring myself to pay $40 for one, for half that from a reputable company I'm in for two!

TruezyI like wallet cases, so I like Pad & Quill's handsome cases and Kavaj (kah - vahiee)'s slim and inexpensive cases (had a Kavaj on my 5S for 2.5 years, another on my 6S so far for just over a year).
