If this comes back, I'd like the option to just buy the amp.
Nplateau77
Just the amp, and the whole set with speakers, are now on Amazon very cheap.
Groch
Yeah just picked up the amp only as I have no need for the speakers.
I'm very pleased with my speakers. I love that the DAC works with my headphones so seamlessly. The speakers are also not too large so that plus the DAC do not take up too much space.
This DAC can take in input from Optical and USB and can switch between the input source using the remote right?
FaceMcBashy
That is correct
I read in a review that the volume setting isn't retained after powering off. Is the volume retained after it goes into standby mode at least? What is the power draw from the wall in standby?

I've been looking at the YU2 as well (I love the small size and color options). How does the sound quality of the YARO2 speaker compare to the YU2? Is the YARO2's sound more comparable to the YU2 or to the YU3?
MassMatt
YARO2 is like a step in between YU3/YU4 and YU2. More bass extension than YU2 but less detailed than the YU3/YU4,
Have a decent set of bookshelf speakers. Would love to be able to just get the amp in this drop. Is that possible?
I have altec lansing ada885. Anyone know if can use that sub with this setup?
Does anyone know if the headphone output is 3 pole or 4 pole. I was hoping to use this with my headset
Redmouse567
3 pole, no microphone input sadly
Seriously considering pulling the trigger on this!! Does anyone know if the amp/dac would be something you'd stick with if you want to change the speakers in future? Seems like the passive speakers are the limiting factor in producing better sound! Appeals to me because of the price, limited space and potential to upgrade speakers for an improved sound.
Hope others can chim in to help me decide! Is this the best sounding speakers for the cabinet this size?
I've been looking for small-ish bookshelf speakers for my desktop. Currently I have been using a Fiio E17 to drive my headphones. The fact that these speaker's amp could replace the Fiio for reduced desktop clutter is very appealing for me.
Does anyone have any opinions on these speakers, or if the DAC/amp here would be at least equivalent to my Fiio E17?
Does this have the same issues that the YUMI 5's do?

Check out our YU4, auto wake has been tweaked and is much more sensitivity and quick.
KantoLiving
I don't want auto anything. I want to control everything. So that's a negative ghost rider!
If I didn't already have a set of Kanto Yu5's, I'd be in on this. Very impressed by what Kanto is doing.
Got any white ones laying around!?
Wish there was an option for the Matte Finish /
Been researching mini amps for speakers, how does this amp sound?
BeerCanChicken
The amp sounds great / plenty loud & clean. Plus a good headphone amp too.

Can this be hooked up to a record player/ turntable?
Load 3 more comments
A record player doesn't use a dac. It's analog.
A turntable doesn't convert analog signal to digital, so you can't really use a DAC with it. What you need is just an amp.
Possible to get the amp only in this drop?
what's the shipping cost for UK?
q1. is there an embedded crossover (i.e. stop sending low frequency signal to speakers if a subwoofer is connected to Sub out)?
q2. if yes, then what is the crossover frequency?
Many thanks!

You are mixing up the power requirements for the amplifier with the power output. One does not equal the other.
blueribb
@blueribb - I agree that the power requirement does not equal the power output.
But I also believe that the power output is always lower than the power requirement due to the inherent losses (switched power source a.k.a. class-D amplifier, embedded circuitry that monitors the inputs, DSP & associated memory, ADC etc. , most of which translates into heat).
The input is DC so power is Voltage x current.
The equivalent DC power for 70W RMS does depend on the amplitude and frequency of the generated signal - for a sine wave (I think of this "speaker outputs a single frequency"), the RMS value is 0.707 (1/sqrt(2)) of the peak value. The claimed peak power produced by the speaker would be higher than 70W RMS (for a rated 60W DC input).
I gather that some capacitors can affect the power delivery but I doubt that it can account for the large perceived (by me) gap between the stated output and the stated power requirements.
Anyone can provide a rational explanation to my question or should I drop it and file it under "Marketing statements, handle with care"?
I'm thinking about getting these for a friend for xmas. He just built hi son first PC and I still using an old amp and shitty speakers. He's a gamer and musician too, and hasn't been mixing on his crummy speakers. i know these aren't necessarily meant to be for mixing etc., but I want to get him something budget friendly that's a good all around unit. I watched the review video and the guy was fairly unimpressed when listening to playback at husband desktop, which is where my friend would primarily have them. Thoughts?

Hi SaucyP - what subwoofer have you got and what's the crossover frequency setting (on the subwoofer)?
Thanks!
MandM
It's just a generic pioneer sub with no crossover option. Wish I could help more, you can contact kanto and inquire about frequency range on these.
Will I need Ann active or bassibe bass module?
Adrain6
You will need Ann active subwoofer
My current setup is a hodgepog of stuff since I use my computer monitor for both my PC and PS4. I'm currently using a super old Logitech Z-5500 setup where I have the PS4 connecting via optical, but also feeds audio to my monitor via HDMI, which then pipes it to my speaker setup via aux in so I can have overlapping PC and PS4 audio at once. Is this at all possible with the Yaro 2?
Edit: Nevermind, found out by scrolling down and reading.

Ages ago I reviewed the original Kanto Yaro. TL;DR, it's a great little system (a . Well worth the Massdrop price! http://itsjustjustin.com/kanto-yaro-speaker-review/6514
How does these compare to the Kanto YUMIs in term of Sound Quality(I Don't Care about Bluetooth)? If I'm reading this correctly These can Power Headphones Right? Are they good enough to Power the Sennheiser HD650/6XX?

This is what I was looking for! Thanks!
How do these differ from the YU3's?

Would anyone recommend these for a basic home entertainment system setup?
Buying a new living room TV and looking for a decent sound system to support TV/Netflix/gaming/music etc. Wondering if this set is appropriate for such an application, given the headphone amp and usb DAC included (not sure if they would get much use). Roommate is looking at cheap soundbars, was trying to find a superior alternative at a decent price. Already have a satisfactory speaker/headphone setup for my desktop computer, so I would not use this set for that.

This would be a killer near field home theater set up. ("Near field" meaning you won't produce really high sound pressure levels with speakers this size in a large room.) Hook the included optical (digital cable) from the TV's digital out (many new TV's have an optical output) to the amp's optical input to make use of the DAC. BTW, this will allow you to control the basic sound functions with the TV's remote so you won't have to grab a second remote to adjust volume, etc. And while not necessary, if you can swing it I'd recommend a small sub to fill out the theater sound. But either way it's really good set up for stereo TV sound, beyond most sound bars and light years ahead of any built in TV speakers.
I should say I haven't heard these Kanto speakers but I have a set of Aperion 4B (4" analog stereo speakers) and a Boston Acoustics 8" sub that I had hooked up to a borrowed friends Kanto amp. It sounded good enough and was compact enough that I am considering purchasing one of these amps to run in a bedroom TV set up.
