What's the difference with this? (At a much lower price for Canadians when considering the exchange rate) http://www.laytonaudio.ca/en/home-audio/411-kanto-yaro.html

matty2013The dropped item must be a new version of the item you liked. Note this drop is for Yaro 2, and item you linked it just Yaro. I can't tell you what the difference is by simply looking at the picture, but I'm sure someone from Massdrop could tell you what they are.

matty2013USB input and a remote are two of the differences.
matty2013matty2013 (and all others interested),
The YARO2 is the re-designed version of our original YARO. The original YARO was a really popular speaker system we sold for a few years, unfortunately they were not very reliable. The first gen YARO had a powerful amplifier, an internal power supply, and inadequate ventilation which caused degradation over time due to heat damage. We went back to the drawing board to make the YARO2 more robust and keep it relevant.
The YARO2 has a slightly less powerful amplifier than the original (35 W RMS per channel), an external power supply, and better ventilation. These changes will ensure that the new amp produces less heat and dissipates it more efficiently. The headphone amp has also been improved on the YARO2 being able to drive high Ω cans with ease, something the original YARO struggled with. There is a USB DAC for use with PC / Mac and the remote has been revised. Protip: You can control your audio with the remote when connected via USB.
We should probably be advertising this as a headphone / desktop amp as it really gives you the best of both worlds. The YARO speakers are similar to the Kanto YU3's, but sound slightly more laid back and have a bit less bass. The YARO2 system would benefit greatly from a subwoofer if listening to hip hop or electronic. Hope that answers some questions about the new YARO2, we're stoked to get it in the hands of the Massdrop community and get some feedback. As always feel free to contact us directly if you have any other questions, support@kantoliving.com

KantoLivingOnly in black?
unbornchickenunbornchicken,
Gloss black is the only colour the YARO2 system comes in. I was really pushing for us to create a Snow Camo version to match my Tactical Christmas Stocking but I was told it was a ho-ho-horrible idea.
I am going to be biased since Kanto also makes subwoofers. Our sub6 is a very compact 6" sub that works really well in bedrooms and small living rooms. The sub8 has an 8" woofer and a bit more power and works better for large rooms. Both of those subs are sealed which means they're very "quick" and accurate at the expense of some volume.
If you want a louder sub we make a ported down-firing 8" called YURI which works well in home theatre situations / gaming. I'd recommend a ported YURI sub over a sealed sub if you're listening to rap / edm as they're such bass-driven genres. Our sealed subs are better suited for genres like rock / jazz where you'd want a bit more detail.
Hope that helps!
