so, speakers finally showed up today. set them up and really enjoying them. wish i had them positioned up against the wall for more bass response but my desk floats in my studio so that's not going happen. thinking about maybe picking up the monoprice 8" sub to compensate. i must say i'm glad these are ported in the back. feeling the air pressure, if these were front ported they could easily blow paper around your desk. mmv as not everyone's music is bass oriented but i was definitely surprised considering their size.
they sound best loud(er). it seems anything under the 12 o'clock position tends to lose detail. also noticed these sound better with all computer volume settings at 50%. had them at 100% originally (plugged straight into my motherboard) and would notice distortion/chuffing/rattling from the speakers on certain tracks which was a tad disconcerting. then i rooted around for an extra usb cable to run them through their onboard dac and noticed a definite improvement in quality and a better volume balance (was able to run itunes at 100% volume with better volume control on the speaker itself). anyway, things seem to be running smoothly now. time will tell.
the highs and mids (like most reviews have stated) are definitely the strong point. everything comes out crystal clear (primarily listening to tech/minimal/house as that's what's on my computer). i'm very satisfied as far as clarity is concerned.
also, picked up four of these small doorstops at lowes. they do the trick and help focus the sound towards my ears. was an easy -5 dollar investment. a ton better than paying thirty plus for the audioengine a2 stands.

does anyone find it odd that the volume/power was on the left speaker and not the right? for some reason every time i reach back to turn it off i wind up turning it up instead. weird.
any thoughts? wondering how these will hold up against the audioengine a2+? anyone receive their $10 massdrop coupon?

theeattreNo credit for me yet. I did get the e-mail however. $10 iTunes and $10 Massdrop credit was the proposed compensation.
