tringuyenerThey're different, one is active one is passive
tringuyenerThe YU5 is exclusively a powered model. The YUMI has passive and powered model. (Of course, one speaker in each YU5/YUMI "powered" pair is passive. )
The YU5 and YUMI have near-identical features but sound different. A Kanto representative posting on MassDrop said that the YUMI's and YU5's have a "different tweeter, driver, and amp type" all which "contribute to" their "difference in sound signature". He also said that the YU5's are "brighter which means the high end is more pronounced".
The "YUMI is a bit warmer sounding, more pronounced midrange and smoother high end. The YUMI's are a bit more realistic sounding when listening to live instruments due to its more accurate tweeters. YU5's work well as desktop / nearfield speakers since they have a more relaxed midrange whereas I think the YUMI's excel in a two-channel audio / home theatre situation. Other than that they have similar features with the YU5 getting louder due to it's higher power class-D amp."
I haven't heard either model, but I doubt if the YUMI is "more realistic sounding" just because it's not as treble heavy as the YU5. Keep in mind that many factors affect how speakers sound (speaker positioning, room size, carpeted floors, etc.) and sound preference is subjective.
If you plan to listen in a smaller room, I think the best value here is the YU3. It has the same features as the YU5 but is somewhat smaller and lighter... and $70 less. With a subwoofer added, you should be able to get much better sound than the YU5 alone.
mattrisA lot of things contribute to why the YUMI is more accurate, it's not just that they are less bright. I think a more clear answer to the question of "YUMI or YU5?" comes down to feature set. YU5 has more power (can get louder), has a better remote, better Bluetooth support (connects and pairs a lot quicker), and has auto power-up. The YUMI's do not have auto power-up which means you physically have to wake the speakers after they go into standby. If you plan on doing any steaming via Chromescast or something similar the YU5's are the best option as they will automatically turn on and start playing music. Same thing applies if you're planning on using the speakers with a computer. To summarize, if you only care about audio quality go YUMI. If you want a more modern, polished speaker with better features go YU5.

KantoLivingIs the comparison between YU3 & YU5 have similar pros & cons as YUMI or YU5?
Houston890YU3 and YU5 are nearly identical in feature set. Same remote, auto power- up, they even share the same tweeters. YU3 has less bass extension due to smaller driver and cabinet size though, less wattage as well.
