Love the sound but the connection keeps dropping to standby mode when I pause the music. Quite annoying meaning I can’t connect the speakers to work with echo. Unfortunately have to get new ones :(

None of our speakers resume via Bluetooth, once the speakers go to sleep the connection is dropped.
I just have my Echo dot sitting on top of the main YU5, getting power from the USB port on the back and connected back to the speaker using the aux cable. I also have a Harmony hub to automatically switch the speakers into bluetooth mode by saying "Alexa, turn on the speakers."
I just bought the Kanto YU5 speakers and they keep turning back into standby mode (orange light) whenever I try to turn it on for 10 seconds... Can someone help me with this please?

I went to their website and sent them a message. They reply asking for my invoice, and offered to replace it with the Kanto YU6. :) Perfect customer service.
@yarik6 Hit us up if you haven't already support@kantoliving.com
Got mine last night and they are REAL nice sounding. Love the digital inputs for my PC and the Bluetooth connection for my phone and tablet. Excellent and very balanced sound and responsive enough low bass to run great without a sub. Also sounds great using the 3.5mm headphone out from my computer. So happy with this drop and price! *update* (Oh wow, just played Awolnation's "Sail" and my goodness the bass response on these are amazing)
I have an Audioengine D1 DAC with RCA out (as well as optical) and since it seems these speakers have built in DAC, is it necessary for me to use the D1? Or should I go straight from computer via 3.5mm? (I don't have optical built into my computer). otherwise what are some good input setups? Thanks!
Wogurt
Use the D1 via RCA as the onboard audio on motherboards is generally pretty average.
When are these expected to ship?

I have had a set of these for a few weeks and the Bluetooth connection keeps dropping. I am primarily using it with my iPhone 6 and often put the phone right next to speakers. It also stinks with my 2012 Macbook Pro, which I usually have set up about 15-20 feet away. Any troubleshooting I can do or does it sound like defective speakers? I've used same speakers in friend's house with little/no issue.
davidcfriedlander
The bluetooth has worked great for me on these. I've been able to walk around from my room to the kitchen and living room with out dropping connection from my phone.
Using these speakers to upgrade my setup. is this a good setup ?
YU5 Focusrite
adortega
Is your Focusrite a Scarlett series? Imo the audio interface doesn't matter a lot with powered speakers as a lot of features are built in (amp, dac, etc.) Many headphone amps usually only work as a pass-through for that exact reason. I like Scarlett's stuff, but you probably won't notice a difference if you plug the Yu5 into your computer rather than the audio interface.
Can these be hooked up to a separate amp?
tubeamp
No
I am trying to find out how I connect these to my PC since the USB is charge only. Audio jack out to Toslink in?

Cool. Thanks. I have one of these at home and use it with my Mac to my ParasoundZdac. Was just wondering how I will hook up my work PC to these. So the Audio Jack runs into the built in DAC as well? These look like a winner to me although maybe a bit big for work.
ematthews
If you are using the 3.5mm audio output from your work PC it will already be processed by the on-board DAC from your PC and you can plug it straight into the 3.5mm input on the YU5.
Does anyone have experience with the YU6? Is there much difference? It appears that the drivers are both still 5.25", and they have all the same features except the YU6 says it's a total of 100W instead of the 80W from the YU5? If I can get a YU6 set for 330 is it worth the 100 bucks?
WildMurph
I have a pair of YU4, YU5, and YU6. The YU5&6 are almost identical but the YU6 turns itself on almost instantly when coming out of standby. I only use the digital input on both so I haven't really put them through their paces. Hard to say if its worth the extra hundy.
Quick question for the MD hive mind.
I plan on using these speakers as an upgrade to the ones that are in my TV, I'm using them there because I was trying to avoid having a separate AV amp just for my television setup. Would it be possible to turn off the internal amplifier in these speakers and drive them with my Vintage HI-FI receiver which will be sitting just on the other end of my basement? I have a set of speakers for the HI-FI obviously but I can foresee a few scenarios where i would like the ability to pipe the music off to this set of speakers as well as my regular ones.

I thought using optical would bypass the auto shut-off during playback issue too but no dice. Inputs are fine it seems to be reading the signal downstream of the DAC at least.
TotalSensoryOverload
If your Amp or TV has an optical output then yes. If it doesn't then maybe.
Is this for the pair
dprophet
This is sold as a pair.

Thanks

Mdjee
Hey Mdjee,
Canadian shipments are available at checkout. All Canadian orders will ship out from our head office in Coquitlam, BC.
Thanks,
Josh
Josh
Hi everyone. Yes, @Josh is correct about Canadian orders being available for this drop. We're sorry about the mistake here!
So I'm wondering if there's anything to be had from upgrading the speaker wires on these. They don't look like they're all copper. Some banana plugs would also facilitate things.
Gingerbreadman
These are REAL good powered speakers, I have listened to them and the wires looked good to me in person. Most smaller units like this have do indeed have binding and banana plus hybrid plugs that should accept both. I don't feel the need to upgrade the cables for only 40 watts honestly.
Bottom of the page says "international orders will be shipped by Massdrop". Does this mean Massdrop can ship this to Australia? If yes how do I see how much is the shipping?

Yea at the beginning of the page it says limited to US but at the bottom it says "international address will be ship by Massfrop". Could be an error for Massdrop.
When you click join drop, you don't commit until you press pay. Even if you pay, you can always back out of the drop if its still an active drop. Only when the drop ends is when you will be charged.
How would these compare to the AudioEngine 5+?
Golfen
They're quite comparable. At this price, probably beats out audio engine in terms of value
What are the differences between these YU5 speakers and the YU6 that have apparently replaced them in the line-up? I see they added a phono preamp. I'm curious if the sound is different though. thx.

I'm wondering the same thing. Why is the YU5 not listed? Is it an old model with worse bluetooth etc?
lbdesign
YU6 is the same product with improved internals.
Kanto YU5 drops again and yet still no shipping to Aus...
Same situation with monitors... heavy days my friend
If I have these connected to my amp/dac which is connected to my pc, do i have the ability to override the connection with my phone whenever I feel like? Or would I have to unplug from my pc or turn off my pc to be able to play music from my phone? Is there a switch on the speakers to switch between inputs?
Edit: oh I see there's a remote for that. Dang it'd be annoying to always have to grab the remote when I want to play music on my phone. Is there a phone app that I can use to switch inputs instead?
Spudinske
Pressing the button/knob on the speaker switches inputs round robin style.
Spudinske
First world problems.
I love speakers and magic cards. But I can't buy them here because I'm an Australian :(
I am trying to decide whether to go with the Kanto Yu5 or the Audioengine A5+, thoughts?

DEXTVHD
I have both, (along with the YU2's and YUMI's) and must say that they stack up just fine next to the Audioengine speakers. The Audioengines have just a slight bit more clarity in the high end, but for the price I'd recommend these guys all day long.
DEXTVHD
The Kantos have more input flexibility and features at a lower price. I got a drop on the now discontinued YU3s. Nice sound and more flexibility and bass at a lower price than the Audioengine A2+. Ultimately, I think you'd be quite happy with them.

Architectural Digest includes a picture of Obama’s sound system . Guess which set of speakers did he used ? Kanto Yu5.
Jonathan-Le
They left out the servant that pushes the remote/loads the albums.
Jonathan-Le
Even at such an oblique angle, I can tell that the album cover on top is Earth Wind and Fire's "That's The Way Of The World". Cool.
Would this be a considerable upgrade to my Klipsch promedias 2.1? They are going on 12 years now.... and the clips snapped recently so they're dead right now until I'm able to fix them haha.

Gingerbreadman
Crazy, I am in the exact same boat- 12 year old Klipsch 2.1s, 2 clips broke! I am eyeing these as a replacement too. The old saying don't fix it if it ain't broke held strong with my Klipsch, but now they are getting a bit long in the tooth
sanchox
Well I got mine a little while ago and I gotta say it is great. It's definitely an upgrade. Fuller, louder sound. It will of course lack some bass as there's no sub, but you can add one later, down the road as I will. It's great to have the flexibility to add any sub as well.
I still own a pair of Simple Audio Listens from a previous drop in 2014 and have never thought they sounded thrilling. Eventually, I'll buy a real preamp and amp for powered speakers to use in my apartment, but in the meantime, I could give my Listens to my fiancee and use the YU5s in my office.
Has anyone compared the Listens to the YU5s? If so, do the YU5s sound better?
Any chance the gloss white will be back in stock in time for this drop? I really have been waiting for that colorway and only that one :(
rawsushiii
If you don't see a color offered it means it's out of stock or not available from the distributor we are using. TBH white YU5's have been mostly unavailable for a few months, do not get your hopes too high :(
Kanto, I see that the YU5 and the YURI are to be discontinued. How does that affect the warranty? Also, I noticed an error in the colors. When selecting colors the Glossy Teal has a picture of the Matte Green. So which is it?

Okay. Thanks.
dang, wish I had asked. I say that error ND didn't trust to order teal, which is what I actually liked. (Sharks fan.. lol)
$230? Damn, what a steal. I paid $260 on the last drop. If anyone is debating on joining the drop, I say go for it!
I just have to say, my YU3 arrived non functioning, my expectations dropping everyday, although I should say I've contacted support and appear they want to replace it, still bad after taste will stay ...

That's my main problem, active speaker is done, after unpacking, there are intervals in sound, meaning is kind skipping as vinyl would do with bad turntable cartridge, nob looks like some chinese puked it out so i've start playing with it, and seams its an electronic failure.
My question is, since your active speaker did not work properly, why you have not complaint and now you saying yeah they have replaced it ...
Thats is as simple as bad quality product management, since it look like 5% of all receivers have on working equipment at arrival, why would you think this is acceptable ?
I mean I know you're yank and you probably get used to this crap, but not me, and I wont stand listening to some old lady bull shitting me at the market stand ... Get your carrots and fudge off !
Good luck
SickMeds
Kanto has the best customer service I've ever came across. I'm sure, if you tried (and are within the continental U.S.) they would have been more than happy to exchange your product. I've rarely read issues with the customer having a faulty product but, when I do come across the few, Kanto usually already fixed the issue. Edit*** Seems they already fixed your issue before you typed your comment. Why so harsh?
I've had my speakers for nearly 3 years now. Never had a problem and even recommended them to friends/visitors. Those that purchased them also didn't have issues.
Got mine, they stopped working after about a week of light usage. They just wouldn't start playing audio again, completely broke. I contacted Kanto and they gave me a paid-return label and I exchanged them. Current ones work great, but I had to add a sub because I like my music "warm" or with more bass, and the speakers sound flat without one imo.
@KantoLiving are you planning on doing a YU4 or YU6 drop at some point for those of us that want the phono amp?
