Just wanted to clarify: the text of this drop says the pens come with Bock nibs (presumably #6?), but the close-up pictures show Schmidt nibs.

Karas pens are developing a strong following and deservedly so. I know several people who have been so pleased with the feel and overall quality that they've returned to using a fountain pen after decades away from them.
Machined in the USA these pens are finding a great niche of their own in an already exclusive market.
For the record, I think Massdrop is batting well over .500 in terms of offering widely available niche products at a solid discount or offering hard to find stuff at all (usually without a discount).
For writers, the most recent Lamy 2000 drop and the current Bung Box drops are great examples of each, respectively.
On this drop, I think Massdrop missed the mark. Judging by the sluggish participation, it seems others agree.
The price savings isn't really there for this one. Sure, you might save $7.25 or so for the all copper version, but if you're willing to buy a $150+ pen online, less than $10 savings isn't a strong incentive. If Massdrop is working directly with the manufacturer on this, the discount needs to be at least $10 bucks deeper than can be found readily (with discount codes, etc) to make folks buy through here.
Also, in the interest of "Truth in Advertising," the version photographed as the "lead in" to this drop is not $85. As presented, that particular pen (copper body and copper section/grip) is the most expensive. Taking into account the offered options, it's $85 + $80 +$20 + $2.75 = $185.75 at the lowest drop price.
In spite of the lackluster member response to this particular drop, I hope it's offered again with a drop price that makes it worthwhile for folks to buy through Massdrop.
Alternatively, perhaps this drop could be extended by a couple days and a lower drop price offered?
I try to call 'em as I see 'em. I'm curious what the future holds.
As usual, I hope this helps anyone considering this drop (and those from Massdrop watching this discussion).
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatConsidering the Karas coupon discount and free shipping above a price point, the Massdrop is disappointing. And I agree about the product placement shots vis a vis the price. after you add up the price bumps for copper, it is more than twice the base price. I love the idea of this pen and the thought of supporting American Made... But you get very little incentive here. And if you are in the US, you can get the ALL COPPER all the time at Goulet Pen Co for $175 plus shipping - with no coupons or incentives..

I just purchased straight from Karas Kustoms, Aluminum body, copper grip, used code KARASPENS for 10% off...with shipping it is $106.50. I would recommend going directly to the dealer on this one. Massdrop cost would have been $107.50 with shipping for the same purchase...

Agreed. The pen looks great. My post hopefully didn't put any negative connotation regarding the product, intent was only to direct others to the best price...

I'm confused. Brass is the Red color or Gold color? In the picture, Brass is Red, but when I choose Brass option in the Join Drop, the picture shown is Gold color.

Hi @BILLKARAS, As I didn't see the typical vendor "V" by your name, I wasn't sure who you were at first. Now I realize you THE Karas in KARAS KUSTOMS. After learning a bit more about your brand and the enormous effort put into each model and unit as well as you commitment to customer service, I think I understand some of the reasoning behind the limited discounts. I would imagine that one of the benefits of working with Massdrop is that they are another retail outlet that can provide reasonably sized orders. For customers who know about your product, and know you sell direct (and even with some nifty discounts), it makes it more difficult to justify going through Massdrop, especially with the longer "purchase decision" to "shipping" time. I don't know how much margin you and Massdrop have to work with, but I would imagine that many more folks would be interested if the pens could be offered with a "absolutely best price available - even with free shipping and promo codes" sort of deal. Even if this price were only available at a substantially larger purchase commitment. Having the final price be so close to what we can get straight from you or an established, highly respected online retailer dissuades members from purchasing through Massdrop and dealing with wait times, etc. I'm very pleasantly surprised you're as involved with this discussion as you are and I hope that something can be arranged that's acceptable to you, Massdrop, your other retailers and (of course) us, the customers. In the meantime, Karas fountain pens are on my list to eventually purchase (once I have any money) because of the stellar quality, the commitment to making them in the USA, your support and, of course, because they're excellent pens. Thanks again for contributing to the conversation and I hope to see another Karas drop soon, whether or not I can purchase at that time. Cheers.
