Product Description
A collaboration between German pen maker Kaweco and Japanese stationery store Bungubox, this June Bride Something Blue bundle is something to behold. It starts with the special-edition fountain pen, a variation of the popular AL Sport Read More
Engraving this with "June Bride Something Blue" was a huge fail and destroys the appeal of this pen. People viewing this pen won't know it's the name of an ink, and many of us wouldn't want to carry a pen that says this. This was discussed on a Facebook page I belong to. Even with only a few people chiming in, one person didn't want it because she was divorced; another because she does not define herself by being married; and two others because they were married in months other than June. Whoever decided this was an appealing inscription on a pen didn't do their research. It was suggested that the inscription could be covered up with the optional Kaweco clip, but it might be too long. Too bad--I just love the color of the pen.
GreydogI dont like the engraving either, but I love the color, so I will put the clip over it. I have passed on this drop a couple times, but decided this time to get it. I mostly didnt buy it because of the price though. If this color becomes permanent for Kaweco, I will be disappointed that I didn't wait. It will be my first AL Sport.
Yeah, the teeny-tiny converter doesn't always work the way it should, and it holds less than a regular small cartridge. So I went back to just refilling a cartridge in my AL Sports.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course. For anyone on the budget but liking the anodized aluminum pen color and ink color, you can always get a L.E. Lamy Al-Star in Pacific color for $40 or less with more nib options, and quite a lot of inks are in this color range, including Lamy's own Turquoise/Pacific ($10-12), J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche (<$10) or Diabolo Menthe, etc., etc.
Ok, I‘m intrigued.
I‘ve researched the package:
The pen itself is 11.556 円 on bung box = ~102 US$
The ink can be found for 43 US$
Both items are pricier than the regular Kaweco, Sailor products. That‘s what you pay for the bung box exclusivity.
Throw in the converter for about almost 10 US$ from amazon and it is actually pretty good, you have a total of 155 US$ or 154 and then some.
150 US$ starting price is actually pretty good, since you usually would buy the items individually. The ink can only be 50 ml - 150 ml must be a typo.
So while the package comes with a discount, it‘s clearly not for chepskates.
I‘m unsure whether I‘ll jump on this one.
And the pen body is probably more on the teal side of the blue than in the pictures
ChaospuzzlerI was going to buy the pen on Bungubox last year. They required a $50 shipping fee, making it $150 total, so I passed. Then this year Massdrop had the pen and ink for less! So I think this is a good deal.
For that price I'd be expecting a titanium nib, or at least something to make it worth the cost. The text in the awful tacky font down the side of the pen devalues it in my opinion.
How is this a good deal? Al sport pens retail for $73 or so. The ink for $40's. This is $140. Not a good deal! When the ink was listed as 150 ml, it was. Not now.
GrandnaguszekIt is a special edition of the pen, and the price point is about what you would pay if you could walk into Bungubox and buy it in the store, so it is a deal not in the price is low but in that you can buy it at retail price instead of from a collector later, with a markup.
