Like any tool, knives need to be cleaned and maintained to perform their best—which is why we’ve assembled this collection of items to keep your favorite folders and fixed blades clean, sharp, and working like new. To do so, we worked with KC Tool, the number one German tool distributor in the US, to bring together a comprehensive assortment of enthusiast-grade components. Among them are a set of Torx tools, lubricant, cleaning solution, a strop block, and a protective work surface. Each piece has been selected based on community reviews and input. And it all comes in a nylon pouch for safekeeping. See below for more details on the components.
Almost all knives use Torx hardware, but low-quality tools can strip the screws and make them nearly impossible to remove. That’s why we stocked this kit with the best of the best. Featuring a comprehensive set of Wera Torx drivers, a Wera Rapidaptor, a set of Wera Torx torsion bits, and a rack that sits on a desk or mounts to a wall, this kit has everything you need to disassemble most any knife in your collection. We’ve even thrown in the T15 bit for less common custom knives. Of course, when you’re working on your knife, you need a good workspace. How about an easy-to-clean silicone mat that won’t damage the finish on your knives, with small compartments for nuts, bolts, and supplies? Done.
Folding knives have moving parts that are in constant contact, which can prevent a knife from opening and closing smoothly. To keep those areas clean, there’s the EDCi cleaning solution, which aids in rust and corrosion prevention. Safe for any kind of finish—from Cerakote and DLC to PVD and anodized finishes—EDCi is also non-toxic and non-flammable. To apply it, rub it in with the microfiber cloth. After, you're left with a clean, dry surface that won’t attract dirt, dust, or fingerprints. Once you’ve cleaned your knife, use the Nano-Oil 10-weight lubricant. It adheres to sub-microscopic metal crevices, resulting in next to no friction at all. Put a drop or two on the pivot barrel, detent, and bearings or washers, and your folders will flip open like new.
Usually, knives come sharp from the factory, but if you magnify the edge you’ll see many small nicks and burrs. The goal of the strop is to realign all the burrs and create a fine-tip edge. With other sharpening methods, it’s easy to roll an edge over, but the strop is flexible and soft enough that that won’t happen. Use the leather strop from Knives Plus frequently to maintain your knives and bring them to a razor-sharp edge.
