This product is a complete joke. There is NO information on the Massdrop listing that talks about temperature USE limitations. However in the poorly written instruction guide in the box, it explains that the top (plastic part) cannot withstand temperatures over 212 degrees Fahrenheit. So it can’t be used in ANY closed grill situation because it will (as mine did) melt. I am returning this and if Massdrop gives me a hard time, I will have my Amex dispute the charge. This is a joke!!!
mine melted while inserted in a steak on the grill, prior to that i had used it in the smoker and noticed that unless i stood next to the smoker i lost the bluetooth connection, forget about monitoring from inside the house, i would buy something better.
The Bluetooth on this device is very poor. It cuts out all the time sending an annoying alert sound which is identical to the temperature alarm. SO basically constant false alarms and a need to constantly reconnect even when the phone is mere inches away.
I Hate to say it but mine was very inaccurate as far as temperature reading as well like some of the other reviewers. It does work except for the accuracy. If your looking for accuracy based on my experience I'd look elsewhere. I picked up a different bluetooth model from a different manufacture and have had no problems since. Disappointing but such is the way things go.
Is there anyone from a prior drop that can post a review? I'm particularly interested in anyone using it with their smoker. I'm after the dual probe version so I can keep track of smoker temp and meat temp.
HeeftyI got the L a year or so ago. TLDR, don't buy.
Bluetooth range was about 4' (had to leave my phone right next to a window next to the grill.)
Software (Android) didn't have a 'done' button. Basically could only snooze the temp reached alarm as well as out of range alarms (which you would get if you turned off the thermometer.) Also no way to exit the app other than force close.
Difficult to shut the thermometer off. Required pressing and holding the button, hard for several seconds. Did not time out and go to sleep if you didn't shut it off, and the battery life (not rechargeable,) was probably about a week if left on.
Mine died after 9 months or so. I may have left it out in the rain for a little bit the last time it worked, but it wasn't pouring out.
Never tried to measure accuracy. It was plenty accurate enough for me to get more consistent results with chicken and steak than just using a timer.
This thing is getting a lot of hate, but I picked one up for a buddy of mine that is always smoking stuff on the weekends and he loves it (he would be the first to say it was trash if he didn't like it). I can't really see folks using it for regular BBQing, but for smoking it works great. Only issue he has ra into is not being able to pick up additional probes as a standalone option. He has said that the range on it is pretty limited, but it works for him.
For those having a hard time finding information on the manufacturer; just go to kisslink.com or keewifi.com and you should be able to find what you need.
