TaffymanYeah, good loudspeaker setups often cost much more than headphone setups. I'm currently using a NAD D 3020, which got Stereophile's budget product of the year last year, and I've been very happy with it. You can get them for around $400 on Amazon these days.
There is some affordable stuff in the Class C section here (affordable for someone seriously considering dropping $1000+ on loudspeakers).

AudioMan612I have the original NAD 3020 and it looks like it won't be sufficient to drive these. How's your experience with the newer D 3020?
BTW I'm pairing my HD800 with a WA7, and the sound is pretty specular.

AstrotellerI'm using it to power some CEntrance MasterClass 2504's, which require less power, and I've been very happy with it. I have also used it to power my old Polk SDA-2's on a quick temporary setup I did for watching TV with some friends, and I was able to fill a pretty good sized living room without too much effort (I think the volume was generally set between 2/3 to 3/4 for this). I didn't do any critical listening on this, but I can at least confirm that the amp was able to put out enough power for my floor speakers.
I would guess that the D 3020 would work just fine for the LS50's. Are there better amps available? Yes, of course, but it comes down to how much you want to spend.
Some amps that I'd be curious to try with LS50's are the Wyred4Sound mINT (as per http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2013/07/kef-ls50-loudspeakers-w-three-budget-amplifiers/), Music Hall a15.3, Creek Evolution 50A, Exposure 2010S, Naim NAIT 5si, Peachtree Nova nova125SE, Arcam FMJ A19, and a Rega Brio-R.
I can imagine that being a good pairing. Do you have the upgrade tubes? I still want to get them. Sennheisers seem to really love tubes (although I will say, one of the best HD800 setups I've ever heard was an Ayre QA-9 feeding a Headamp GS-X Mk II, which is solid state amp).
