What's the purpose of having an ultralight version of something you don't need? Also who "everyday-carries" a straw and why?

Pointy> Also, who "everyday-carries" a straw and why? You must not have kids or live in a community with waste reduction programs. Do you carry your own water bottle rather than use single-use plastic bottles? The argument used to be, "Why would you carry around your own water bottle when you can just get a bottle of water somewhere and throw it away (or, later, recycle it) when you're done?" Same thing for shopping bags. "Why would you carry one of those with you? (Eyeroll)". Now, of course, there are ultra-light, pocket-size, reusable shopping bags. Think about the single-use items you or your family use frequently; things like water bottles, drink cups, coffee cups, flatware (fork/spoon), shopping bags, ... or straws. If you don't use plastic flatware at all, great. If you use it only occasionally, consider whether you should replace it with multi-use flatware you carry with you. Ziplock bags to carry them in hygienically can be washed and reused as well. Same for drink cups/lids and straws. If you don't use straws, great! -- don't start. If you do, and you don't want to quit, consider carrying a reusable one with you. There are less expensive, heavier ones available (such as Klean Kanteen stainless straws at $10 for a four-pack, or the conveniently collapsible but still heavy Final Straw (https://FinalStraw.com/)). And, the bent Keith Ti straw, at roughly 8 and quarter inches and 10 grams, would work neatly as an ultralight "pocket" bellows, as long as you're using it with a smallish fire that won't burn your eyebrows off when it flares up (such as in a biofuelburning Solo Stove or Emberlit Fireant).

jmk451LOL good one. I don't think I've ever seen anyone carrying around metal straws much less straws, cups, lids, silverware, shopping bags, and "pocket bellows". You must be "Baggin Saggin Barry" from the Keenan and Kel Show.

PointyYou appear to think that:
  • What you've seen is the only valid experience.
  • Folks who answer your questions honestly and good-naturedly will appreciate your ignorant and insulting replies.
I'm pretty sure both are wrong.

Pointy/raises hand I almost always have a pair of reusable glass straws with me, and two sets of reusable plastic cutlery for myself and my bf. I carry them because I decided that I should do my part to help cut down on the amount of plastic that ends up in the trash.

jmk451Because saving the planet is not such a bad idea. Some might go as far as saying we kinda really need to stop using so much plastic. <rolling eyes> https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/kidspost/plastic-straws-are-little-but-they-are-part-of-a-huge-problem/2018/09/07/63bfe44e-ac9f-11e8-b1da-ff7faa680710_story.html Reduction of trashing the earth is wise. In my purse, I carry a knife, spoon, and fork, at least one shopping bag, and often bring cloth napkins. I don't use straws often anyway, so I haven't had the need to buy one.
