Setting aside the political nonsense (FYI, it's the same everywhere), this is very intriguing as a collector's item. This will be worth a lot more in a couple of years, believe me. And what makes it even better is the exact sound doesn't matter - I just tune them up with my parametric equalizer. BTW, my headphone purchases here have all been successful, right down to my 3 sets of $5 Monk-Plus earbuds.

dalethornWhy would it be a lot more in 2 years considering it doesn't bring anything new to the table, doesn't feature any ground breaking tech or feature something special that no one else has.
You are welcome to pay USD 500 for my 6 year old FA011 if you feel like it.

gikigillI can see the difference between this beautiful special edition and the decrepit (no disrespect meant) old headphone you have. Like anything else, rare coins or whatever, the value is in the combination of rarity and aesthetics. I'm excited about getting this and showing it to all of my friends. BTW, I've had many premium headphones that were meh, but this one is special.

dalethornDecrepit? How sure are you of that?
I have a 1977 Stax that's as good as new.
Besides no matter how pretty it might be, it just does not sound anywhere close to its price, and just like my FA011, it'll be decrepit too so struggling to see how the price will go up.
I'll offer you a FA011LE for USD 1000 in mint condition. Put your money where your mouth is.

gikigillI put my money into real product that means something. To me, the Stax SR009 means something. All that other Stax junk can take a hike. And, I support this Massdrop site with purchases like this FA-011 LE - that's where you need to put your money instead of just kvetching.

dalethornCan I borrow your time machine to buy a SR009 in 1977?
No kvetching required, already own the FA011LE. Still not worth the $340 today and I didn't even pay full price.

gikigillI'm not selling anything. I'm supporting Massdrop AND getting myself a beautiful "Made in Russia" headphone.

dalethornNo offense, but it seems to me that buying a pair of headphones for every reason EXCEPT the sound is insanity.

JackMI've eq'd 170 headphones (widely published) with a parametric equalizer, and if the parametric equalizer won't fix it, then it's one of two things: 1) The headphone is defective, or 2) The sound is so horrible (i.e. Flare R1 etc.) that it might as well be defective.

JackMLike anything else in this world, to do it right is a certain amount of work, and most people aren't willing to do it, or can't get the tools. You try getting a parametric equalizer, then see how easy it is. When you have it and do it right, you can make those $1000-plus headphones sound much better. Maybe at $4000 you can get great sound, but the stuff I've had (Focal Elear, Audeze LCD2, NightHawk, etc. are not so good sans EQ.

TigermanYup, the same person. Got the SZ2000 and the 1000 and using the Ifi iMicro Black Label to power them. Also check out the FX99X from JVC, brilliant pair of basshead earphones.

gikigillHaha, I would - it looks great - but I already have a Vali 2, and it seems like my ears are lo-fi enough that they can't hear any difference from there. ... will you get it?!? - ah I just checked your profile, and I see you will. Awesome!
