Got this back in October, went EDC with the whangee handle sticking out of my briefcase. Tons of style but very little substance, I'm sad to say. Blows out in even a light gust of wind, and one of the spoke tips broke after a dozen brief uses.

WigdaddyBummed to hear this. Sounds like it would literally explode just by crossing into the Portland area.
Heh, yeah it might. I will say that I haven’t had further problems with it since I posted the above two years ago. I’m still carrying it every day — even got a new Tuscany Leather briefcase with umbrella loops a few months ago to show it off. ツ

WigdaddyLol oh wow, didn't even notice the 2 years. Guess this product hasn't been back for awhile. Glad to hear you ended up having a good experience with it.
WigdaddySorry, we're just seeing your comment now. We'll try to do a better job of monitoring the drop pages after the drops end, but Massdrop doesn't send us any notifications.
Anyway, sorry about the broken spoke tip. Please email us at sales@kentwang.com and we'll take care of a repair for you. We'll pay for shipping both ways.
I've personally never had my umbrella blow out, and I was using it in a category 4 typhoon in Japan.
KentWangWell that's pretty badass, Mr. Wang. Can we trade? :)
Seriously, though, I appreciate the offer of repair, but no worries — at this point it's simply My Umbrella and I don't want to change it. The spoke tip has acquired wabi-sabi status for me.
GamggeeThanks, me too! It's Tuscany Leather's Venezia briefcase. Full-grain Italian calfskin, supple and buttery, with lovely brass accents and a nice pigskin lining. Five different colors to choose from and the price is amazing. One thing I love about it is that the smaller pocket on the right is the ideal size and shape for my 26800 mAh Anker battery. :)

GamggeeI was worried about that myself given some of the language used in the description, but it turns out it's just an imprecise translation by a couple of Tuscan dudes who haven't been in the English-speaking market long enough to know the buzzwords to avoid.
I'm familiar with leather types and the processes used to make them. Before I purchased this case I saw that there were references to it being "genuine Italian leather" and "polished leather," so I contacted the makers directly to verify how the leather was was made from before ordering it. They told me in writing that it is full-grain leather and described the process in detail. My experience with it is also very consistent with that of other full-grain products.
My very first briefcase was genuine leather, my second top grain. This is my third, and the difference could hardly be more pronounced. There's no imprinted pattern on it. It's soft but tough, smells and feels the same as my Saddleback mousepad, has the thickness and natural grain patterns that I expected, and is already starting to develop a noticeable patina. It is of the same quality and character as the absurd $2000 heirloom briefcases carried by the partners at my firm — we've compared them side by side, and they've repeatedly gone on about the unbelievable deal I got on it. If this is genuine leather, I don't want full grain any more. :)
KentWangHahahaha, I was also in Japan during both mid-late october Typhoons. My Fox Telescopic held up nicely as well. I'm gonna go ahead and hit this drop for 2 units, as I'm pretty assured of the quality of the products just by comparing to the apparent OEM. Also great to see you directly interact with the community. Cheers!
