I also received only ONE pair after ordering two pairs of shoe trees.
The one pair I did receive also has damage. I've submitted a ticket with photos.

Interesting - I also ordered two pairs but received only one pair. Haven't received a response from support yet, but if the "solution" is to just refund me $34.99 I will be very disappointed.

Make sure you folks receive the correct number of shoe trees. I paid for two pairs and received one pair and support's response was, "We don't have any inventory, here's a refund for $34.99." I'm incredulous they wouldn't even refund the additional shipping from the added pair, let alone letting this situation happen in the first place.

Haven't received a response yet from customer support - but I only contacted them today as I returned home expecting three shoe trees, yet got an empty box. Had to check calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st.

please be aware that these are treated with some sort of coating, which essentially makes them useless. Buy unpolished cedar wood instead, they help to maintain shape, and keep your shoes dry. Also, there is an enzyme in sweat that affects leather shoes negatively, which is why the cedar's scent, as well as its ability to absorb moist is a better way to go. These are typical shop window shoe trees, for presentation rather than daily usage.

E.Norman The matte shoe trees have been stained--they have not been finished with any kind of coating or lacquer, and the stain doesn't prevent them from absorbing moisture. The glossy finish is less absorbent.
But overall the debate between unfinished and finished shoe trees is overblown. Most top end producers like John Lobb, Gaziano & Girling, and Corthay, use finished shoe trees, some glossy, some matte.
Theoretically, while unfinished wood may absorb some moisture initially, that moisture has nowhere to go; it simply stays in the top layer of the wood, which keeps the leather moist for longer. So while the lack of finish may initially decrease moisture in the shoe, it ends up prolonging the period that the leather remains moist. That's all theoretical though. Ultimately, there's very little practical difference between finished and unfinished wood.
