It has a TN display... :/

Unknown_ImpedanceOuch. That seemed like a pretty obvious design decision to avoid... Yet.
Jack_CarverI know right... It turns out, I can't even find In-Dash units with IPS displays.
What I have integrated into my car today is an IPS display (factory installed), and you'd probably be better off just integrating a Nexus tablet into the car, as long as you're up to the effort.
It's just such an unfortunate decision. A relatively small detail that completely change the product. Watching a movie on that display would be pretty bad, and just using it while sitting on the side will probably give you those TN-artifacts we all know and hate. :/
Not only does it reduce the functionality and usability of the product, but it severely lowers the quality feel, with TN's daunting disadvantages.

Unknown_ImpedanceCheer up, I'm sure you'll find a solution. Either a super well integrated tablet hack or simply a better integrated solution. Factory car dashboards are so limited and sluggish these days I'm surprised having at least a dumb display that'd use your phone for processing isn't a standard. It'd be a compatible for both Apple and Android since the device itself would bring its own tech. Pretty simple IMO.
Jack_CarverYeah, but I just wished it would be different. I've spent my whole life weeding out bad products, shady marketing and stupid marketing lies, poor quality etc. And many times you have to "hack" a solution to do the simplest things, wither because manufacturers don't think the mainstream are interested in it, or because of bad driver support. And people keep buying the bad apples, because they aren't interested in sitting hours after hours researching. Which I can understand, because mostly what I do, is weeding out the bad stuff, not going through the good stuff.
They are, luckily I have a BMW, which isn't the worst (video scaling is pretty bad, but encode to native 1:1 and it looks pretty decent). I still had to upgrade the interior to get a decent display though.
I expect Model 3 to be better at this with a horisontally oriented IPS display made by LG. It'll be high-res too. Can't wait till' I get it.
