I bought this knife at a retail establishment and like others here I found the blade to go off center easily due to cheap screws made of exceedingly soft metal. The pocket grab feature is phenomenal but not enough to keep me from going back to my rat II from ontario knives or the HK folder I got more recently.

acriolloThe only good thing about this knife is the pocket grab. Every other aspect of it's operations sucks. The screws are cheap, the blade goes out of center, the clip is soft and bends out immediately. It just goes on and on. My rat opens smoothly every time and is easy to keep clean. This knife caught and held lint and started making grinding noises when opening the first month I had it. I got the HK 14716 because I was tired of waiting for the rat II to get the new grip texture and I was interested in something the same size as the rat with a cerraded section. The HK has D2 steel and has stayed centered and clean for as long as I have had it. I don't even need to tighten the clip screws like I did on the rat II. This kershaw they are selling is a stellar design with the cheapest manufacturing work I have seen in my limited search for pocket knives. At this point I trust Leatherman and Ontario to make a sturdy knife based on personal experience and I keep this crappy kershaw in the glovebox of my car in case I need a worthless piece of steel for some disposable project.

acriolloI don't own the rat II but I have one coming in the mail. This is Kershaw Emerson is the best "budget" knife I have hands down...much better than any of the gerbers I have from big 5 and such. It may get dull a little faster than my ridiculously expensive Zero Tolerance or Benchmades but it's definitely a step up in quality from your average Walmart knife

Thinktank1803i didn't have any of the problems with mine and have been using it daily for around 2 years, this is a $25 knife, for the money it's great, read the other comments here, seems alot of us are happy with what we got for the money.... i picked this up after going through several rat II's myself, got bored of the ratii and wanted to try something else, this knife is a bit smaller than the rat which makes it more comfortable to carry for me through out the day and again the key feature on this knife is the one handed opening, it's actually come in huge for me a few times already, time where you are trying to hold something and need to get your knife out and make a cut, believe me being in that position just a couple of times will make this knife worth the money alone, lol....
so yeah, just saying that after two years of having mine, i've had no problems with the clip bending, i've never had to touch the screws at all so i have no idea if they are soft or not, the blade is centered and flips out as it should either by hand or by the wave grip and i've never done more than just wipe the blade down before throwing it back in my pocket, so two years of use and no issues with pocket lint or binding up at all..... my experience is basically 180 different from thinktank1803 here, so i really don't know what to make of it....it seems most everyone else is happy with this knife for $25 as well...i'm just wondering if he got a lemon or something as his experience doesn't reflect mine or alot of other users here..

TheIzzardKingThats good to hear as confusing as it is. I still think the design is magnificent but my best guess is that yours was manufactured in a different lot, possibly in the states instead of Taiwan or China (I forget which is printed on the blade). Honestly if you have used it for two years and neither the clip, thumbstud, or blade hinge itself has gone loose I would put my money on it being a higher quality material run. Honestly im a little envious, I can operate any of the knives I own one handed but this Kershaw had the best design I've seen yet. I would still be using it if mine didn't have so many issues.

Thinktank1803I own almost all models in the Kershaw/Emerson line and I can confirm that QC is all over the place. Several examples I have operate great, have good centering, and reasonably sturdy hardware, and others don't. A few can only get the blade centered when the pivot screw is torqued to an unacceptable degree, making the pivot way too tight. They are all made in China, but I imagine some may be produced in different plants, or the QC just sucks.
If you're interested, I would recommend a 6054 (CQC-4k) in whatever color suits your fancy. I have several and none of them have any issues.

DepthChargeThat's funny as I have had the opposite experience. The couple CQC-4k I have are complete garbage with horrible actions and centering issues. Their big brothers CQC-4k XL are the opposite. Fantastic knives all around and the only ones the flip open always if you use the thumb disk rather than the Emerson opener. I think I have the 6 and 7 too and they are good but not as nice and the XL. I think you are probably right that QC is uneven and it may depend from which particular batch you end up buying.
