I liked this knife so much, I bought one for my father for Christmas. Sharp, great balance/weight and a good locking mechanism. I recognize it is a little tough to open, but I did oil mine and found it to be much smoother. Pen is so-so, but the knife is a killer value, especially considering how much some of the higher end blades on Massdrop go for.

I finally opened this package this morning & it's quite a disappointment. The knife is a bear to open one handed with your thumb . Yes I know it's a Emerson hook for your pocket but it won't always be in my pocket. The pen is kind of cheap & how am I suppose the carry that without a clip? Lesson learned . I guess if you didn't know anything about EDC this might be a cheap starter...

Is the tactical pen made by Kershaw as well? Also, for any who have already purchased and received this drop, how would you rate the design of the pen? From looking at the pic it seems kind of useless as a self defense tool because there is no flat surface to place the thumb when striking. Thoughts?

I participated in the last drop and am very happy with the quality of product. The wave feature has a small learning curve, but is really cool once you get it down!
