Product Description
World-renowned knifemaker Ken Onion developed the SpeedSafe assisted-opening mechanism, and its application on the Leek has made this folder a staple in the EDC community. The Leek’s drop-point blade shape and slim, tapered profile allow it to excel in both slicing and detail work Read More

This is one my all-time favorite knives--I'm on my third (don't ask). My current, and favorite version is the more traditional, plain-Jane steel (not this black version).
Here's the deal: the assisted opening method on these knives is perfect: fast, smooth, works every time (I wish all my knives employed it). The weight feels good, but only in the steel versions. I have one with anodized aluminum scales and it's too light. The pocket clip is also good.
The locking mechanism (supposedly there to prevent accidental openings is cheap and unnecessary--it only works when you don't want it too (I've knocked them out of every one I've owned and never had an accidental opening, or more importantly, a prevented intentional opening). That minor flaw excepted, this is a great EDC knife. I suggest you buy 2 or 3; they're easy to lose (don't ask).

I just got a leek with carbon fiber handles and cpm 154 steel for under 60 dollars on ebay. Right now, They have 20 percent off a 76 dollar leek, just like the one i described.

Great knife.... not so great price. These can be easily had for closer to $40. I own much more expensive knives with "better" steels but I carry this one most often. Don't let the "budget" steel and price fool you. Great design, holds a razor edge reasonably well and sharpens easily. The reasonable price also makes me less worried about carrying it every day.

Knives with smooth handles and little to no guard between the hand and the blade seem like an accident waiting to happen. Your hands will sweat at some point.

senselessI have the stainless Leek and this has never been a problem for me - it's hard to tell from pictures, but the flipper tab and the top of the blade both have subtle jimping that is placed really well and works effectively - the swell outwards allows for a really secure hold between your thumb and forefinger. The shape and size of the blade also tend to preclude the kind of vigorous sawing motion that I would associate with a risk of slipping over the small guard and into the blade.
It's a well executed design and a nearly perfect EDC because of its size. My gripes are entirely around the delicate blade tip (mine is now a shorter, tanto-profiled blade) and the fact that the pocket clip doesn't let it ride very deeply in either configuration. I carried this thing daily until I got a Delica 4. The Leek is back in my pocket today because I lost the Delica, and I've come to appreciate it again for what it is, but when my Massdrop SG2 Delica4 shows up this'll go back in the drawer.

The leek is a really great design. Sleek, sharp, and the assist open works well. A nice capable gentleman’s folder for an office environment. This is def not a pry tool or a hard use knife though. I have had a silver leek for years. Just sent it back to Kershaw and they replaced the torsion bar, re-profiled a broken tip, and sharpened it to a razors edge free of charge. Kai’s warranty and customer service is top notch.
The 14C28N Sandvik is a budget steel, but it holds an edge pretty well and is def on the higher end of budget steels. I like it a lot better than 8CR13MOV.
As for for the price, 3 camels shows the lowest this leek has ever been on Amazon was $35 in 2010. It has only been in the low $40 range 3x since 2015. The black leek is tough to find a deal on. $50 is pretty close to going rate. At $45 I might bite if I was really wanting one, but I think you can get it closer to $40 with a little patience.

Mike8194Price on the Leek goes up and down quite a lot on Amazon. I payed $47.29 for my last one, and that was one of the D2 composite models. Don't think I've payed >$40 for one of the 14C28N models, and I've had 2 of them (lost one, replaced it...). If you're patient, and have Prime, just watch Amazon for the price to flop back the other direction.
$50's on the high end for 14C28N. It's not bad steel, sharpens easy, but the edge retention's nothing to write home about. Behaves a lot like a decent (Buck or similar) 420HC.

They make a composite blade. They make or made a s30v and elmax. Except for the black you can get one much cheaper with the same steel. (last I looked). I'm waiting for a dragonfly ii with zdp189 to come again.

honestly, dont get too caught up in steel. generally a better steel reflects the lowest price you are paying. but check out youtube cedric & ada gear and outdoor channel. they test steel edge retention, and if you needed 1 guide, I would use that.
a better thing to do would be learn to sharpen. steel alloys are always 'getting better' but every steel needs to be sharpened and maintained. i recommend start of with an opinel and a 10-20$ dual grit aluminum oxide sharpening stone at your local hardware store. get both the carbon (1070?) and stainless opinel (12c27) which will run about 25$. plus carbon steel promotes healthy knife care practices, so if you ever decide to buy a much pricier knife, you'll be able to take care of it better. (and i love carbon steel lol)
You can get a leek cheaper, but I'm not seeing any new black handle with black dlc blade cheaper except factory seconds/blemished. It may just be my weak search skills, though.
If I was going to but a leek in sandvik, I'd probably forgo the dlc blade and save $10+
I'd really like to see a drop of the carbon fiber version with cpm154 blade at a good price.

You can get this exact knife FAR cheaper on ebay (brand new). Do not buy through Massdrop.
