Getting kind of old to check Amazon and find the same price on a Massdrop item. What’s the point if I can get a black-wash (cooler) version for less than the black one here?
These are really great knives and the price is good too. Once you experience the ease and utility of the flipper/speedSafe mechanism, everything else second best. And CBSA be damned--you can club a baby seal to death in Canada but you can't cary around pocket knife?
Unfortunately for Canadian members, the CBSA (Canada Border Services) now considers all Speedsafe knives as illegal to import into Canada. They are not technically considered a switchblade but since the blade extension that extends above the handle (in the closed position) can be used to "flick" the blade open with the help of the torsion bar, they deemed it illegal. A thumb stud on the blade that assists in a "controlled opening" of the blade is still OK to import. We used to import a lot of Kershaw knives but have had to switch over to more Columbia River and Gerber to replace the Speedsafe versions.

I read an article recently that they are seizing unassisted flippers as well. Held up on appeal. Kershaw skylines (flippers but no torsion bars or even bearings)were the knives in question. It read as though they are interpreting the law to mean no import of any knife that can be "flicked open" which includes pretty much any folder. Bad news for Canadian knife collectors.

Not sure if this is the latest ruling but it is from Aug. 22, 2017. www.citt.gc.ca/node/8051.
I love my Leek, and really dig the purple one here, but would really like to see that purple available with the 'composite blade' with the d2 edge that I have on my current one.... And would like to see it in a frame lock, which of course won't happen with aluminum scales......composite leek, in titanium, with deep carry clip please? 😊 (just throwing that out there to the universe, but if MD wants to make it a thing for an exclusive run, I'd be interested)
That said, this one here really isn't any savings over buying elsewhere 😑
And that looks like one of the most difficult to sharpen serration profiles I've ever seen!
Black non-serrated Kershaw Leek would be an excellent option!! I have an non-serrated orange Leek in my backpack now. I'd like to get a few black non-serrated as Christmas gifts, however, that is not an option.
And to answer Vicente's question, I just bought the CRKT Eros, and the Leek is smaller and lighter, but basically the exact same knife. I like both equally.
Did anyone revive the wrong one? I paid extra for the black serrated option but I was shipped the purple one
VicenteEGarcia
i did as well, ordered serrated and got just a pain black one with no serrations at all.
I've heard the CRKT Eros is basically the same design, but implemented better. Is there more to it than that?
The Eros' sleeker look and the slight curve on the Eros blade (to spread the cutting force away from the tip) are the main things cited as improved on the Eros.

I own both of them....I recently purchased the Eros after owning pretty much every variation of Leek they have. My opinion is that the Leek is a better knife if you get the Leek models that do not have liner locks. The black (standard/serrated) versions both have frame locks. Several of the colorful versions have scales and liner locks inside which really thickens them up. As far as action of the blade opening, the Leek is far and away more fun to own. The Eros is a tad bit smaller - and I think the blade is just perceptibly thinner. If you want slightly tougher, I'd get the Leek. If you plan to open letters in an office, perhaps the Eros would be preferable. Both are sharp, have about equal steel, but the Leek can be purchased with some pretty sweet variations of steel if you're willing to spend more $.
So, the drop is complete. When might I expect shipment? And it would be nice if there were a date on each of the comments to know when they were made. Today is Nov. 7
>Choose from purple or black with serrations and save ~$3 (while waiting weeks for it) over getting it on Amazon
...This kinda defeats the purpose of MassDrop. Deals on MassDrop should be better than what you could achieve with a coupon code on Amazon. And the fact that there's only two models to select from is absurd.
If you want one of these, be aware that the black finish has a gritty feel that I could not tolerate.
Cheaper on amazon http://a.co/dleMRWT

But not in these colors. The Leek prices vary significantly based on the color of the handle and blade.

$42.97 for purple. EBay, free shipping.
I can buy these in store for less than 40, and i picked mine up on sale at local sporting goods store (Bimart) for 28 when they had all kershaws on sale
Love mine....BUT I stopped carrying it because of how the clip makes so much of the knife visible. I like the deep carry clips on the Cryo and others. It’s a must feature for me.
Also 40$ and waiting a month has gotta be a joke, right? 😕
Supersport
Amazon sells deep carry clips for the leek (and other knives) in a variety of styles and materials. Now if Massdrop could get a really good deal on some of those (they run $20-$30 usd) and include them with the leek they may be able to create a more enticing price point.

I accidentally ordered a serrated leek a while ago (it might be this same model actually) and I was unimpressed. The leek is way too small for a serrated edge. The blur makes sense but the leak gives you about an inch and a half of cutting edge before the serrated edge starts. For most cutting this is pretty useless. I would recommend the purple one over any serrated Leek.
Really? Purple or black serrated? No thanks.... especially at that price. How about a Leek with quality glow in the dark scales and stone washed blade? I would pay $42.99 for that.
datilderek
GITD scales sounds cool. I'm in for one if they make it.
datilderek
Purple serrated would be awsome. 😮
Not worth it in the US, does not ship to Europe.
Brilliant.
Hurry! Buy! Buy! Buy!

LOL!
What a joke!
I can walk to the menard's less than a mile away and buy this for $35. Even ebay has massdrop beat on this one.
It's on sale for $49.99 at blade hq and you'll have it in your hands in a week or less. Not over a month, trust me the wait isn't work saving $5
Great knife, but be certain to use the lock! This thing is just begging to open up in your pocket otherwise. Happened to me a few times.
cpl1
Same. I poked a nice little clean slit in my hand because of it once. Lock for sure.
My fav knife ever. Perfect for basically everything day to day. As we say over here, "c'est de la balle".
Would it be possible to have a drop like this (kershaw dlc leek) in a better steel? elmax, s30c, s35v, for ex? thx

I'd be really interested in a drop for an improved Leek. Just got one of the D2 composite models from Amazon (paid $55... they're $67 now, two weeks later.), and I'm really loving it. The 14C28N models take a nice edge, but they just don't stay sharp for long enough.
Jerrikko
I love 14C. Takes a wicked edge and holds it well as long as you strop after using. Some of those super hard steels are just super hard to get sharp. Yes, S30v holds a kind of sharp edge for a longer time. But getting it razor sharp is next to impossible. I have one of their Sandvik composite Leeks with a high carbon core. That thing is sharper than snot but it is too brittle. I live in fear of snapping off the tip. 14C is nearly the perfect knife steel for the way I use my knives.
For me, S30c is a lateral move with better durability of the almost-sharp edge cursed by its inability to take or hold a truly sharp edge. My survival knife is S30c. My EDC is Sandvik 14C.
Just got mine in the mail today and I'm quite pleased with it. It takes a bit more effort than I had expected in order to close the blade but it does force me to be more careful in doing so, which is a good thing since I'd rather not accidentally close it on my fingers. The blade isn't hair shaving sharp right out of the box but plenty sharp for most purposes, so no complaints there. Opening the blade is quite smooth and fast and the default tip-down carry position of the clip I quite like. My only complaint is the frame lock doesn't come down as far as I would like, making me a little less confident about the security of the lock. That being said I don't intend to use it for anything heavier than cutting cardboard packages so this could end up being a non-issue.

So glad I found this drop. After owning my first Leek for close to 2 years, I lost it. It was my favorite work carry knife. The speedsafe has me spoiled. I saw some others mention accidental opening in their pockets. I never had the issue, but I took apart the knife the first day I got it, lubricated the friction surfaces and then tweaked with the tightness of the screws after I put it back together.
I just got home to see this drop had ended, is there a way that I could order one?
