Ken Onion developed the SpeedSafe assisted-opening mechanism, and its application on the Leek has made this folder a staple in the EDC community. The Leek’s drop-point blade shape and slim, tapered profile allow it to excel in both slicing and detail work Read More
Between my rainbow Leek ans red Blur, I don't really need another one, but I really want this. I guess I've got a few days to convince myself - and my wallet.
For the extra 15+ dollars I would go with the Kershaw link with M390 steel. The link is a lot heavier though, something I personally like. I own the leek with the 14cn and it's a great slicing knife with that profile.
After waiting for an "eternity", my leek finally came in the mail.
I'm happy to note that the 2 inserts that allow us to change the clip to tip up carry are there. Thank the kershaws!
The blade was nicely centered with no blade play at all.
Put some bluelube in the pivot and the blade came flying out.
I'm a happy happy man.
I'm looking for kershaw expert out there when it comes to their knives with Damascus steel blades. I just received a Kershaw chive with Damascus blade and while I'm no expert it sure looks like it's simply a print or a painted figure on the blade to me. Anyone out there care to jump in and help me out on this?
GeschaI'm no expert by any mean but I've owned several of their Damascus knives and from what a I recall, their blades are made by Alabama Damascus. They are very well made and usually contain around 300 to 400+ layers of steel. They are extremely sharp but do rust easily. A little oil on the blade should prevent that.
Pros: they didn't just throw carbon fiber scales on a shit blade but they also upgraded the steel to CPM 154.
Cons: speed safe assist, comes tip down carry, the Leek blade shape does nothing for me.. in fact it's ugly as sin.
Overall this is not a bad drop definitely a lot better than the CRKT Avant or Spyderco Tenacious also in carbon fiber but both with shit steels. If you don't mind the Speedsafe assist.. this may be a thing for you.
DLC blade option would've been great as the 14c version comes optioned that way & looks good, only ok steel tho. CPM 154 is just fantastic steel, s35vn is extremely good as well. The wharncliffe is very functional, though a little thin at the tip.
Since it's uncoated blade, for those into re-profiling, Leek takes a reverse tanto very well = lose only a tiny bit of edge, stronger tip / blade geometry, greater piercing performance, prettier [imo]. These disappear in the pocket, even with a stouter deep carry clip (Pops Customs could do it, others, etc).
Should be able to get it pretty smooth de-assisted. Also, remove blade lock hardware, stuff is useless
sodbusterMassdrop only puts their logo on their collaborations. This isn't one of those. They are in the "massdrop made" section. The item description also always starts with "massdrop x >designer name here<".
