Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. This is the first time I buy a Mechanical Keyboard on a very "specialized" community. I already own a Corsair STRAFE RGB with mx Silent, which I really like.
But this, guys, is a 60$ (or 80$ for the rgb version) mechanical keyboard. I bought my strafe for 197$ (170€). I honestly think that, for the price, you can't find anything better than this. I mean, the build quality is so good, it feels "good"!
I'm owning the white one with Gateron Blue RGB. Those effects are all presets, there is no software to customize how it lights up, but you do have a preset loader on the keyboard by pressing FN + END (lightning effects can be changed by FN key combination, like PAUSE / ESC / HOME etc)
The LEDs are so bright! I really am surprised by how much they are bright, like my Corsair is nothing besides this.
The gateron blue are... awesome! I really like the clicky sound. And the keycaps, they feel "expensive"... Like, my fingers are enjoying it!
So yeah, I definitely do recommend this keyboard for anyone who doesn't want to pay a lot. But even if you don't mind about the price, it is an excellent mechanical keyboard.
I hope my review will have helped you a bit!
PS : You can add up to two custom light effects by long pressing FN + PAGE UP / DOWN for three seconds and then light only the keys you want with the colors you want :) Oh and if you messed up something on the keyboard , you can factory reset it by holding ESC + right corner Del + left CTRL + Right arrow for 3 seconds. It will automatically restart and restore the original settings!
Edit: Added a video, not professionnal or anything but it may help some people...
I just got mine a couple days ago and have been messing around with it.
Do you know if there's any way to set the keyboard to only use 1 color for the lighting effect? So right now I have it set to just be all green, and when I press a button a random color streaks left and right down the row. I would love it if I could set that to just 1 color (like yellow). Do you know if thats possible? I've tried a bunch of combinations of stuff and havent found anything that changes the random light colors.
As an answer for your questionm @reggiesfriend, it's not possible to change the colors of the lighting effect you have by pressing FN + HOME, those will auto-adjust their colors depending of the background / solid color you've set.
And yes @tredici, FN + Pause will cycle on top of the solid colors you set! FN + End will load both of your saved profiles :)
