I bought one of the originals from massdrop and it quickly became my favorite key accessory. So much that I bought a titanium one about a year later.
This is is hands down the best key organizer. Paired with some aluminum key blanks and a python clip, my keys have never been lighter or easier to manage.
I got the original a long time back. It's only able to hold 4 keys but it's quite useful. I'm still using it and am considering getting an expansion so I can put a few accessories on it
I've been using the KeySmart "Rugged" for under 1 year now, 4 keys on one side and 3 on the other. I don't do anything unusual with my keys, they go from my pocket to my keyholder at night, and back to my pocket the next morning. It keeps my keys well contained/together while in my pocket, which is what it's designed to do. However, the female extended end of the 'bolt' that you thread the male end of the screw in to broke off the bolt head (you can see the two pieces in the image). My KeySmart is no longer usable. I tried to see if Massdrop would do anything, but they can't after the 30 day window has expired. Be aware that it may fall apart and should maybe be coined the KeySmart NotRugged or KeySmart Delicate.
I'd probably be in if there was a way to include some of the accessories on the site (quick disconnect, etc). Otherwise I'd just be buying from here, getting the rest from there, and paying shipping costs twice - Probably more expensive than the $5 it saves me to buy it on massdrop.
I have this KeySmart rugged for 6 months already. It works well in holding the keys, the screws are ok, I added a bit of thread locker on them to be sure. Picture was taken the first days after getting it, now it looks more used, but still holds like in the first day.
Mario.PaulIndeed. That is why I added thread locker from Boker the moment I got it. No problems so far. In the end this Keysmart is worth the investment.
These aren't very rugged. Would not recommend if that's the reason you are purchasing like I was.
The bolt holding it together sheered on mine from a hip height drop.
HaulienMy wife's keysmart broke at the screws/posts much like the picture above. I'd be all over this if I could find any indication that those posts received the same kind of "rugged" treatment the plates did, as those are the clear most likely point of failure.
I adore the product, mind you. And I highly doubt those screws would bend under any kind of stress that wouldn't also bend the crap out of the key, if my wife's experience is any indication. But to get my wife back on board, those posts/screws would need to be stronger than the keys it's holding. Make a version with Ti or tungsten carbide posts/screws and you'd have a near-perfect product, to my mind.
Also, to those people reporting the screws coming loose: I put a tiny amount of threadlock on the screws (the non-permanent kind, to be clear). I would wager that goes a long way to preventing unwanted loosening over time.
