I have it for 2 months or so. It's great. I am using it for Mac. AMA lol.
Overall - it's great.
At first I was a bit uncomfortable with the CMD being too far to the left compared to the Mac layout (where CMD is in line with the "x" key) but now I am comfortable typing on it.
I got a set of PBT keycaps from pimpmykeyboard but USPS of course messed all up and can't deliver it for a month already.
travdumpWorth the price - relative I guess to whatever you can afford. I had Ergodox and won't be using it now that I have Freestyle. I'd say worth 100% - I spend whole day at keyboard, so it's critical I enjoy and not get carpal tunnel (I only use split keyboards).
Split is awesome - I switched to split only a while ago. Was using Goldtouch Bluetooth (it's pretty good for Mac actually) and Mirosoft Sculpt split (absence of key rollover /NKRO whatever is a deal breaker - can't press several buttons at once WSAD + Shift + C didn't work on Microsoft). Freestyle is great.
Like: Build quality, split, software (it's 100% reprogrammable), design - it's a gaming Keyboard but it's really just a black split keyboard (you can turn off the Blue LED which I did). Lift kit works and is good .
So-so: Not a fan of keycaps. I believe it's Cherry profile, which i never used. I just switched all the keycaps to
DSA blanks and it's amazing now, endgame keyboard. Original keycaps were just too tall for my taste (I am used to Goldtouch / Mac style flat keys).
Dislike: 3.5u Spacebar - it's hard to replace if you wanna replace - I could not find 3.5 Spacebar anywhere.
Controversial: The CMD key is a bit too far left compared to Mac layout, but, I heard Freestyle is using standard layout so it's not their fault. Tbh it seems impossible to find a split keyboard which would have CMD in line with X button - maybe some really esoteric Japanese boards that would have other sets of issues. In the end I am used to the CMD placement - I don't feel any discomfort or pain, so I guess that's not really a factor in the end.
Would recommend this definitely. I heard another option is Mattias Ergo Pro, but it's not programmable and doesn't have an extra 2 columns and costs just as much if not more, so Freestyle is the best.
Here are the photos with replaced keycaps, I am using 3u spacebar for Mistel Barocco here. Maybe I will do a mod where the CMD is extended, but I'd have to modify a stem on the keycap for that, so, maybe, one day.
StpnI'm very interested in doing what you've done as well - I find the space bars way too large for Mac use.
Is there a keycap that can replace the Alt key and be offset like that or would you have to get a 2u and cut it or something?
StpnThis is the closest I've seen to a matching set of caps on this board. Looks great!
I had entirely given up on the spacebar situation, but hadn't considered a wider cmd key and a narrow spacebar. I too wish the cmd key were a bit rightward. Two birds with one stone!
So, stock is 1.25+3.5=4.75. I guess the idea would be to swap that with 1.75+3.0. I wonder if a 1.75 key with an off-center stem would be stable enough. Also do your spacebars have stabilizers?
Maybe a future rev of this board could just be designed this way to begin with. So close to standard key sizes!
