Seamlessly expand your Wi-Fi coverage with the kisslink Mesh: a plug-and-play system that offers impressive speeds and a stable connection. Like its name implies, the Mesh integrates multiple modules across your home, each one working in tandem with the others to create a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout the chain Read More
I would love to take a chance on this as a way of extending the range of my wi-fi, but I'm really concerned about how well supported it is. The last version (3.0.2) of both the iPhone and Android apps was released in June 2017, and that most recent Android app apparently can no longer upgrade the pod firmware.
If that critical bug hasn't been fixed in 7 months -- and the only way to configure the pods is via the app -- are they still configurable with the latest iOS release? Will a future iOS release break the app?
If it was clear the company still supported this system, it seems like it would be perfect for me. But what assurance do I have this isn't an orphaned product?
Is anyone else who bought this having serious issues with it? If I go into the app and change its SSID and password it becomes unresponsive or reverts back to its factory settings. As long as I leave it in its factory setting it seems to work ok.
Even in factory settings, the speed is just ok. While I get good enough speed over my entire house, the speed is half what I get from my standard router. I get 100+mbs download and upload through regular router over much of my house. I get only 50-60mbs download and upload with the Kisslink, but I get that everywhere.
The kickstarter project is for the kisslink Pro router. As a kickstarter backer I got also got the Kisslink one. So I had both running for a while.
So here are my problems with this:
1. It is only configurable over the App, which just looks so low quality.
2. It often takes a number of tries to get into the router because it somehow says "the connection is not stable", which is the default alert for every problem.
3. This also has some connection issues with friends logging into your wifi, where it beeps once to confirm connection. There is a 50/50 chance that you experience a bug, that when those friends are disconnecting from your wifi and reconnecting it beeps again. (I'm currently using it in my dorm and ohhh god... I had that happen for 2 hours several times).
4. There are very limited options for configuration. You can't disable guest access to your router. The only thing you can do, is hide your guest SSID...
There are a lot of problems for this router. I'm just stating my experience and opinion. I think you would be better served with another mesh wifi router (unfortunately they are not cheap).
PS: I'm only using one single router, so not as a mesh wifi network (I'm just inferring that if one router has that problem, a more complex network of more mesh nodes has more problems including those.)
w00mOne of the main concept of Mesh WiFi system is they are working like one router, so you get same WiFi from any points. So, Chromecast and Sonos/Hue hubs could work well same as other routers.
