I got mine today and within 5 minutes of having it, it was disassembled on my desk. It's a combination of PB and teflon washers. They have a pair of Teflon washers on the scale side with PB on the blade side. The action out of the box was pretty bad, but that might have been because it was exceptionally cold. After disassembly and lubrication with 10 weight Nano-oil it runs quite well and due to the weight of the blade has a quite nice fall shut. it does seems to suffer from a fair bit of lock-stick but I'm sure it'll wear in.
So far pointer finger flick and thumb flick are the easiest ways to single hand open. Pretty sure you can middle finger flick but it might be difficult.
Ever-so-slightly the blade favors show-side, barely enough to notice without staring at it. (After tweaking the pivot tension it's now completely centered)
I would absolutely recommended this for anyone that needs a larger knife for heavier tasks. I would definitely say it's probably too much for most people to EDC.
MaxwellDemonicI received mine late yesterday no thanks to a delayed FedEx delivery requiring me to track it down at the Post Office right at closing...too excited & couldn't wait another day 😁. It's a really beautiful piece and the gorgeous stonewashed blade is shaving sharp. Fit and finish is stellar and the opening action is very smooth, but it does suffer from an overly strong detent which requires some getting used to. I'd like to see the thumb studs rotated just slightly which might help overcome it. Mine doesn't suffer from any lock stick and locks up at about 20%. Centering is perfect and I don't mind the 6.9 oz heft one bit. I highly recommend GPB1.
tacdrvrMy lock-stick was serious, but after a weekend of constantly opening and closing it, it's much smoother. My lock-up is about 35-40%. I agree on everything else you've said ^^.
KavikThe washers I had were a little gross out of the factory but after a scrub with some alcohol they were fine. I'm still toying with the idea of getting rid of those teflon washers on the outside. I can't discern their purpose and I'm wondering how the action would be without them.
MaxwellDemonicSo, i couldn't decide what to do about those either, and couldn't find any advice online about knives with both washers.
Originally i thought maybe they're to keep the PB washers from spinning against the handle, thinking maybe they're the because the titanium might cause too much wear on the washer? So i only oiled between the PB and the blade and nothing else... And it worked alright, still smoother then original, but felt a little tighter.
Then I royally screwed up. Put too big of a dab of locktite on the pivot screw and it got down in around the pivot and the washers. Rookie mess 😣
After cleaning that out I just went ahead and oiled both sides of both washers and everything is so smooth now i can't see needing to try anything else for the time being on mine.
If you do try that though, be sure to let us know how it works out for you!
KavikThe last disassembly I over-lubricated a bit, and now i'm just waiting for the oil to distribute an dry out. Next time I'll definitely try with just the PB washers. Additionally you should look into getting a blue loctite stick, those things are great for getting just the right amount of loctite.
KavikWell I popped it open and tried removing the teflon washers, the space the add makes a big difference, in order to get the blade centered I had to crank down the pivot which ruined the action. So, verdict is in, the teflon washers do in fact matter.
MaxwellDemonicLol well that happened much faster than I expected from the tone of your last message
Still having no complaints on the action of mine (been flicking it off and on all day today), so I'm good with the decision to leave them as is 👍
Does yours not? I didn't notice till you said something that it isn't there in the MD picDoes yours not? I didn't notice till you said something that it isn't there in the MD pic
Edit :
Weird. A little quick googling and i see what you mean about is it on the spine.
And looking very closely i see it on the spine in the pic here.
Strange that they changed the position like that. Liked it much better on the spine
KavikI do have his name on the back of the blade like yours. The videos I’ve seen show the name on the spine of the blade, not on the back of the blade, so they may have just decided to move the name to where it’s more easily seen, like on ours. Whew!
