Product Description
Based on Darrel Ralph’s custom design, the Gunhammer bowie frame lock is a force to be reckoned with for demanding cutting tasks. The knife puts emphasis on the blade, which is a hulking 4-millimeter-thick, 3.5-inch-long chunk of S35VN stainless steel—arguably the best commercial blade steel available Read More

This is actually a good deal if you look around. My only hesitation with these deals is the uncertain wait on delivery. Russ

S35VN is a very nice, well rounded steel, but it’s still not what I would consider to be a premium steel. Given that - and what we already know of Kizer’s pricing structure from previous models - this particularly blade would interest me at $125, but not $165.

There’s the picture that should have been displayed when this dropped last week!

DougFLA123Yup. Prototype looked better
And not a word still from anyone at MD to clear up all the confusion they caused with the debacle 🙄

KavikThe prototype looked much better. Even if they were selling the prototype, $165 is a little too much for this knife I think. It’s a lot more tempting when the Kizer‘s drop to around $100.
Got my Crux Blue Juggernaut yesterday. It’s a beauty!

I believe the initial drop said limited to 17 units and/or 4 days, whichever comes first. Six units have been purchased and now there’s only 15 minutes left in the drop. WTF dudes?

I think it's more mysterious than that. All of a sudden I don't even see this showing in the recent drops. I think we should just come up with more and more outrageous possibilities until someone from MD have is with their presence and chimes in with an explanation.
Only trouble is, I'm too mentally exhausted at the moment to come up with anything clever lol

They have very different backs, pocket clips and are different colors.

I hear you man! The one they show pictured is the one I would want. But, like @disaltzman said, the photo shown here may be a picture of the prototype. It wouldn’t be the first time Massdrop had incorrect information and pictures on a drop.

The photos listed here appear to be of the prototypes that had a spring clip and not a 3D milled clip with the hideous landing pad for it in both the tip up and tip down configuration. Just a heads up, google this knife to see what the production models look like.

Gentleman, can you please bring me my Megatherium already! I'd prefer the carbon fiber version. It goes on sale for two weeks in December at Blade HQ for $186.00.
I purchased yesterday's Kizer (the Quicksilver) just for spins & grins. And truthfully, I wouldn't trade it for this ugly clunker which is more than twice the price! By the way Mr. Ralph, when you make a knife with such a pronounced and ugly flipper tab, thumbstuds are redundant!!!
The Quicksilver is a far more stylish piece, and is more knife for the buck by far! Look it up people (new scale design...sexy knife I dare say!), the 60 pc. drop flew out of here as quick as it took me to read what I was buying!!!
Just saying guys, bring me what I want at the proper price, and myself and MANY others will be on it like white on rice!!!
Megatherium at or around $186.00!!!
Thank you for your consideration...

I was going to back you up and say it's possible that the stop pin is in a milled path toward the back of the blade tang (like in the FFKW/We Falcon), but I first checked to see if anyone has a disassembly video. I haven't found one, but I did find a video possibly corroborating what @JakeRoberts is saying. At 2m45s of this video, the reviewer mentions that the thumbstuds also serve as the blade stop on this knife:

Still, we don't know for sure unless someone that owns the Kizer version - and has disassembled it - chimes in.
Also, a note about your "only one per knife" comment about stop pins. Grimsmo's actually use two stop pins - one affects the open lockup, and the other affects the closed detent positioning. I only recently learned about that, and found it interesting. I don't know if there are any other makers using a similar system.

YabosMcGeeHey there,
Yeah, it's possible there's a stop pin that keeps the blade edge from hitting the standoffs when closed. I also tried finding a disassembly video, but was unsuccessful. And I definitely could be wrong, as I don't have this Kizer model, but it does seem like the studs act as the blade stop when opened.
