viramanCurious about that pivot as well. Looks like a wide, thin, flat thing would work if a large allen doesn't.... Probably more like a putty knife than a screwdriver? (guessing a screwdriver that wide would be rather thick)

viramanJust read it rides on washers and deployment is not good. Read reviews on BladeHQ. It’s enough to turn me off.

SeadonkeyLoveMy kizer GPB1 is on washers, and is smooth as butter when properly lubed. Can't say if it'll be the same for this one, but just wanted to share. Too many people turn their nose up at washers lately, and they aren't always a bad thing

KavikListen, I agree wholeheartedly. I’m a huge fan of pb washers on knives from Striders to CRK’s to the most popular of Spyderco’s and their high end Taichung factory. I do however, contrary to what Rick Hinderer says, believe that if the knife has a large flipper and it is intended to double as a finger guard, then said knife should deploy with minimal effort and not require a wrist flick if the blade isn’t a beastly knife. Ample detent and proper lockbar tension and pivot placement should allow most knifes to deploy without additional force from the arm or wrist. Bearings while popular nowadays are overrated... but they are fun to deploy and play with. Caged bearings also provide some other advantages. However, for hard use PB is def the way to go. I just don’t want to have a knife that is difficult to deploy when it was designed to be a flipper to begin with. It’s just the principle of the matter imo. I have three Kizer’s and all of them are on bearings, I’m surprised with this one being 3.5ish and having almost .160 thou thick blade steel it would not be churched up to include bearings. The Anso pattern is a bonus for grip and comfort, to me this is a hodgepodge of Anso, Ray Lacanico and Kizer. I think it’s a winner for the money, just odd it is reported to be on washers. I also wish Kizer would start offering anodizing and different blade steels. Just my $.04.

SeadonkeyLoveIf the action is bad, that's definitely one thing.... I'm just saying it doesn't always have to be bad just based on washers. (which is what I thought your comment was implying till your followup) Anyway, again, just as a comparison.... The Brute IS a beastly blade, big and heavy as shit. When I first got it it definitely needed a wrist flip in addition to starting it with the thumb studs (not a flipper on that one) But after a little cleanup and re-oiling I can middle finger flick that monster with no extra assistance now Which just leaves me wondering if this one really has bad action or just needs some fiddling as well
Of course, that takes buying it and immediately voiding the warranty to find out lol

viramanI have a Kizer with that exact same pivot. At first I used a narrow chisel. It was basically the same width as a screw driver but sharp, so it fit in the slot perfectly. Because I didn’t want to scratch the pivot with a sharp chisel, I tried a few other things. I tried allen keys but they didn’t fit. They were either too big or too small. So, I tried one of my biggest torx bits and it fit perfectly. The answer is very big torx bit...I don’t recall the size. It might have been a T30.

SeadonkeyLoveIt's an early Kizer, the Active Bantam I think. Almost all of them had more milling to the titanium, washers, hollow grinds, and a detent tuned more for thumbstuds than flippers.||Great knives, but they're a specific thing and not identical to their current construction style.
