A couple of comments about the Velox 2 for those struggling to get good flipping action. I've had one for quite a while and have never had a problem flipping it. I think you might be able to solve your problem by changing technique.
Make absolutely certain that you're not applying any pressure to the lockbar while trying to flip open the knife. I can imagine if you're expecting undue force from your finger to deploy, you're probably white-knuckling the knife. One of the challenges of smaller flippers is avoiding pressure on the lock bar while opening. The Velox 2 has such a strong detent, it'll be practically impossible to deploy if you're pressing on the frame lock. Try adjusting your grip and relaxing it a bit at the same time. The pocket clip straddles the lock bar and the stationary portion of the frame on the lock side. Try to use the clip as a guide in finger placement. If you stay on or dorsal to the clip, you should be off the lock bar.
Also the Velox 2 requires a "push button" action to flip. Most flippers are "light switch" action; in other words, you rapidly draw your finger from the pivot end to the butt of the knife, engaging the flipper tab as you move over it. This technique doesn't work that well on the Velox 2. You want to place your finger directly on the flipper tab, take a brief moment to build up a little force and then push sharply downward, directly toward the pivot. This technique fits better with the shape of the flipper tab anyway.
If you try these two things, you might find your satisfaction with the Velox improves. It's a great little knife. As some others have said, I think I prefer the Gemini but the Velox 2 at this price is a steal!

HackenslashYeah I'm not really sure why so many people are having difficulties with the flipper. The action is very similar to a boker kwaiken imo. It makes me wonder if the QC is bad enough where there is that much variation from knife to knife, or if people just aren't used to this style of flipper.

IanEDCI'd pin it more on operator error than poor QC. I have a bunch of Kizers and the extent of QC problems I've seen come down to loose hardware (leading to centering issues) and weak'ish detents. I can't remember a Kizer with too strong of a detent.

HackenslashMine definitely would not open as described, in fact it was the complete opposite with a weak detent...you needed to "rake" the whole flipper area with a quick light switch motion to get a reliable opening but as you said, with no fingers on the lock bar. Kizers detent pressure has proven to be all over the place on the different models I've handled, so my experience has differed to yours there too.....anyway, the rest of the design didn't work for me so I sold it off, it was very slow to sell even with numerous price drops, was like I was trying to sell a jar syphilis or something....

JimmyPSo Kizer refused you service when you asked them to make the knife right? Please share your experience with support after the sale.
...or did you just decide to sell it off before trying to get it fixed? I'd like to hear more because I've heard mostly good things about Kizer service and support.
Thanks in advance!

Hackenslash? I didn't ask them to fix it as I didn't see anything that needed fixing, and as I mentioned I sold it due to the design not working for me, it had nothing to do with the flipping action. I was just explaining for other peoples sake, that your described method for a good flipping action was the opposite to the action that my example required, and the reason probably being variances in the detent strength that I have observed.

JimmyPOK, I understand now. You didnt like the knife because it didn't "fit" you from a standpoint of personal preference, not because there was something wrong with the knife that Kizer wouldn't fix. That's good to hear. I was concerned that you'd been denied a fix from Kizer.
As as I mentioned in my first post, my problems with Kizer QC have been loose hardware and weak detents.and its good to see your experience confirm that. Fortunately both problems usually have an easy fix.
I'm sorry that the Velox didn't work for you. I hope your next knife purchase will work out better!

HackenslashThat description of the Velox' preferred flipper technique is perfect, it is exactly how I use it, and the design is very much perfect for the 'shovebutton' technique.

IanEDCDefinitely bad QC. I was 80% sure before, but after you compared it to kwaiken, I'm 100% sure. I've got a kwaiken that opens like a dream and I cannot for the life of me get the Velox 2 to open. A friend of mine got the knife and had issues, so we passed it around the room seeing who could open it and if we could find any tricks to it. One friend managed to open it two or three times in a row, but badly broke the fingernail on his index finger in the process. Unfortunate, but to me that also means his technique wasn't really safe. Three of us have the mirror finish kwaiken also, and we all open that just fine, in fact we all carry it daily and flip it like crazy. If it opened even slightly similarly, it'd be easy for us.

IanEDCI cannot disagree with your comparison to the Kwaiken more strongly. I own two Kwaikens, and they are a joy to use. The action on them is easy and makes sense. This Velox 2, is very pretty, but it is practically useless to me. I cannot open the knife when comfortably holding it. I have to baby it, or use some weird uncomfortable grip as described in the giant paragraph above. My Velox 2 has literally bruised my finger more than once now. Something my kwaiken did not do after tens of hours of flipping.
