Love. love, love this pad! I brought this Klymit Insulated Short pad on my recent thru hike of the John Muir Trail (25 days, 222+ miles), and I could not have been a happier camper. I had intended to bring my full-length Klymit Insulated Static V Lite pad, but at the last minute this drop popped up and I jumped on it for the sake of saving a couple ounces. Any of my initial concerns about bringing a torso length pad weren't warranted; this pad kept me completely comfortable and warm on my journey. I'm a side sleeper, and Klymit pads are the absolute best I've tried in terms of comfort, and this torso length pad is no exception. I'm 5'7", (not super tall or anything, but not short) and with my head on a pillow (off the Klymit) the sleeping pad came to about knee to upper-calf length. This was not an issue, I simply put my pack under my feet, and when I curled up or bent my knees (as I often do when I sleep) my entire body fit on the pad.
Like my other Klymit pads the insulation rating is great, and paired with my Enlightened Equipment quilt it makes an efficient and light sleep system. Klymit pads are quieter than other brands, and I haven't had any issues with slipping/sliding, either of the pad on the tent floor or my body on the pad. One thing I have learned to do with all my Klymit pads (even as just a preemptive measure), is run a small bead of superglue around the valve stem where it is inserted (there are videos of how to do this on youtube). This would make replacing a broken valve a little more difficult, but not impossible, eliminates leaks, and makes it easier to open and close the valve. I dodn't mind that this pad is the heavier fabric, however I would absolutely buy a 20d version, as long as it was the same width as this one. In the past, I've avoided the Massdrop x Klymit pads because they are always the narrower-than-normal width. I realize this is for added weight savings, but based on my sleeping positions I'd rather save the weight in the length.

I only own one sleeping pad its a full length mummy shaped pad with an r-value of 3.5 that I like alot for 65$. but I wanted to get a shorter length pad too this would have to be the one I'd like to purchase next especialy with a higher estimated r-value plus the weight savings. I just wish it did have a flat valve, its not that huge a deal but I like the flat valves features so much more. lastly it would be nicer to have it in the 20d fabric atleast on the top side. I would be willing to pay around 60$ or perhaps a bit more for something like that. About how many more requests would it take to make this happen?

Does the drop still go if there are only a few of us? I missed the last one and really want an insulated 3/4 pad. I'm using the Klymit X wave (10 oz) and for an extra 4 oz, this is an awesome pad.

TabrinThat pad weighs 25 ounces while this one is about 14 ounces and packs smaller. To some people that is easily worth the few extra bucks.

An Insulated Static V Light cut 22 inches shorter and costs $5 more?? I own and use a couple short/torso length pads, primarily for weight savings on warm weather UL trips. If conditions dictate a warmer pad with a higher R-value, I'm usually going to opt for something a little longer than this drop to get coverage from head through knees. In my experience, the 48-50 inch pads are just a bit too short to stand alone in cold weather (even using my pack, additional clothes, etc under my legs). Prefer to have something in 60-66 inch range at a minimum - I think one of the prior Insulated Klymit UL pads fit that bill, although it was slightly narrower.

idoc72Thanks for your note! I too prefer a slightly longer pad than this, but there are many members who have been asking for more of a torso size pad. The cost is related to the small production run. If we end up making 1000 of these, we might be able to get the cost down a bit. Thanks!

Hi Everyone, We're very excited about this particular pad. It currently exists only here and the drop is super limited - only 100 pads available in this sprint run. There are a couple of things to note about this pad as it compares to Klymit's regular pads and our Massdrop specials. 1) It's an insulated short - the first of its kind, at roughly 23" wide and 50" long. 2) Made in Taiwan and has Klymit's proprietary push/pull valve. 3) Already made and will ship in the standard 2-3 week window. 4) Fabric is Klymit's standard 30d instead of our lighter Massdrop 20d.
If this proves a success then we can work behind the scenes to bring this pad back without quantity limit and in our slightly lighter 20d fabric. And if we do, what valve - flat valve like our newest Massdrop pads, or standard twist valve of our original version (slightly lighter)? And what is the ideal torso length pad?
